| Magic User's Club! (OAV) | Bad | The art is very 90s, and there is a lot of ecchiness because Takeo's dirty imagination is shown explicitly. Otherwise the premise, witches vs. aliens, is quite interesting. Phew. I'm glad that's over. All the pantyshots, nosebleeds, bouncing boobs and screaming completely overshadowed the story. Stuff like this gives anime a bad name. I hope the TV series is much better. |
| Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (TV) | Good | A fun title, plus it was advertised by Richard J. It got a rather bad (as in negative), but rather bad (as in badly written) review recently, so I'm going to check it out for myself. Two episodes in it looks a lot like CardCaptor Sakura and Pretty Cure, but different of course. Nothing bad at all really, except maybe the animation seems a bit shaky at times, and Nanoha's hair flips strangely. After seeing all of it, I don't agree with Carl's review at all. There is some fanservice of course, but there are much worse offenders in that regard. Nanoha and her friends sometimes say things you'd expect from someone older than them, but it isn't exceptionally awkward or anything. Other than that this is a very nice magical girl anime. In the beginning it seemed to move a little fast, but it's only 13 eps. long, and the story gets deeper quickly, so it's actually paced very well. The ending was good too, with a solid conclusion. The animation and art are good. The bits where the animation goes a little shaky seem to be ones where Nanoha is shown running with the 'camera' following her. It looked like an experiment in improved realism to me, and not bad at that. The music is usually of the not very noticeable variety, but now and then it gets a lot better and is actually quite catchy. If there's anything bad about that I'd say it's that I'd have liked the entire soundtrack to consist of such quality music. Watched this a second (or maybe third? I think I must've watched it once more some years ago) time. Well, the art does go a little off a few times, though not too badly. There is some fanservice (some pantyshots, Nanoha's transformation, the onsen ep.), but fortunately it's not remarked on by any of the characters, unless you count Yuuno's blushing. Compared to the movie the TV series shows the personal development of Nanoha and her relationship with Fate much better, gives more background on Nanoha's life and family. It doesn't give much background on Fate and Precia though, has much more fanservice, and of course it doesn't look as polished. |
| Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's (TV) | Good | Continues right after the first season of Nanoha. In most respects A's is even better. The only thing I didn't like about it is that the fanservice was more noticeable too. Pity, because otherwise Nanoha is a really great entry in the magical girl genre. Second time watching. Was there really more fanservice? I thought it was less than the first season. Well, let's average that and say it was about the same. But yeah, still a good story. And although the movie version looks more polished, it compresses things so much that the emotional development suffers. |
| Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation (movie) | Good | Now subbed as well (as of 2019-08-28). Hmm, I must say, this second half rounded out the story much better than I expected after the first half. With a lot of flashback story, and one more layer of deceit/betrayal than seemed necessary, but overall it's a decent story now. I guess it can be fit into the rest of the Nanoha timeline as just one incident where Nanoha temporarily had some more super-er power than she usually has. I doubt we'll see this story's additional cast (Iris, Yuri, Kyrie, Amitie, Dearche, Levi, Stern) again. I still think they tried to cram a little too much content into these two movies. The three cats weren't really necessary for the story, Arf got hardly any screentime, the knights just got some action cameos really, even Fate and Hayate didn't get to do all that much. So I wouldn't say it's great, but not as meh as I thought at first. ETA: Played the Nanoha PSP games some time after watching these movies. Turns out the additional cast (and part of the story) was from the games (mostly the second one). If you had played them before the movies came out (plenty of time for that, they're from 2010/11 or so), their intro in the first movie wouldn't be so confusing. |
| Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection (movie) | Decent | Two movies, second one 2018-10. Set shortly after A's. First movie (Reflection) has been subbed, second (Detonation) not yet as of 2019-05-15. Hmm, interesting, but I can't say I'm quite convinced yet. First of all, this is obviously just half the story. On one hand it's better than rushing things to fit in one movie, on the other hand I'm not sure two movies really fixes the big issues. It seems to have the same problem a lot of latecomer prequel/interquels have, it tries to appeal to what people liked about the earlier installments, even to outdo them, and yet it needs to fit into the space left by those. Which isn't quite possible to do both. This movie brings a lot of spectacle, but much of it goes beyond the rest of the continuity, so it necessarily has to be undone or ignored at the end. It should've either not tried to outdo the rest, or should've been put later in the series so it doesn't disrupt the continuity. On its own, too many new characters without any relation to the rest of the series are introduced, some without any background even, and it still tries to give all the many existing characters some attention. All in all it's not exactly bad, just not quite great. ETA: yes, the two movies Reflection and Detonation are two halves of one story, only split for length. Watch them together or it'll be pretty mediocre. |
| Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS (TV) | Good | This season was said not to be as good as the first two. Seven eps. in I'm not sure that's exactly true. It's different certainly. The first two seasons were more typical magical girl stuff, although with a distinctive identity. StrikerS is more like a cross-over towards military sci-fi. The fanservice is as bad as ever, but so far that's all. The animation quality is good, but the characters are a little bland. I think it's the huge number of characters that is this anime's weakest point. There are too many to give each of them enough character development. Other than that it's quite good really. 2nd time. Yup, it's still as good. There isn't as much of Fate+Nanoha+Vivio as I recalled, but what's there is nice. Subaru and Tiana are as much main characters in this season. And there's the huge cast of course. It still manages to give each of them some individuality though. The fanservice was actually only early on. From about halfway there's no time wasted on it. I guess I'll add Sound Stage X here. A shortish story (about movie length it feels like, though it's 2h23m total) set two years after StrikerS and one year before Vivid. Most of the StrikerS-proper cast gets to appear. Meaning Nanoha, Fate, Hayate, the knights and Rein, Chrono, Yuuno, Lindy and Amy don't. In that way it's a kind of preview of how the series changes even more afterwards. This was my first real audio drama. I expected it to be kinda boring or flat without visuals, but that didn't happen. There are only a few illustrations in the guidebook, but it's easy to follow/picture the story without them. I think it actually fits more story in the same time because parts that would be only visual in a movie are omitted (or described briefly). The only downside is there's really no hint of yuri. Subaru and Tiana are close obviously, but they have separate lives. Ah well, let's continue with the Vivid manga. |
| Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st | Excellent | The movie leaves out some details of the series, but at 2h10m it tells a quite complete story. The English subtitles on the Japanese BD and the device vioces are surprisingly good. No accents, just a slightly peculiar intonation. They did change Time-Space Administration Bureau to Dimension Administration Bureau though. The Japanese text on screen seems to translate as spacetime rather than dimension however :? Second time watching this. Compared to the TV series this has almost no fanservice, makes the devices (or at least Raising Heart) much chattier, adds some minor details from later parts of the franchise, and especially expands Fate and Precia's backstory a lot. To add all that though it has to compress the story so much that Nanoha's background and her personal development through the story is nearly lost. Overall, this is a nice addition if you've already seen the TV series, but no replacement. |
| Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha the Movie 2nd A's | Excellent | As expected of a movie like this, everything is very sharp and detailed. Even in high-speed battles, individual frames are well-drawn. Did the series draw out the final battle this much? It seemed like Reinforce's defeat happened just past half time; all the rest was the final battle and aftermath. I think they could've spent more time on Hayate's knights' stories. It's still awesome though. I hope that third movie will be as good. And that StrikerS will get a movie too. Second time watching this. Unlike the first movie, this one didn't add all that much. Only the little framing bit with Reinforce Zwei was really new. Just like the first movie, the story is very compressed. Several details are changed to make it still work (Graham and the Lieze twins are completely absent for example). The final battle and aftermath take up almost half the movie's running time. In the TV series that takes up the last four eps., so less than a third. The battle between Nanoha and Reinforce-to-be is drawn out a lot, and the transformations are shown in much more detail. There are small details added/changed that make it fit better with the later material. All in all, this is again mostly meant as a compressed refresher for fans who watched the TV series long ago. It's no replacement for the series because it leaves out a lot of the buildup and emotional development of both sides. Unlike the first movie it doesn't even have the excuse of adding more background. |
| Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid (TV) | Not really good | After rewatching the first three seasons of Nanoha I got curious about how this would continue. So far (ep.4) there's still no conflict at all, just friends hanging out. Well, up to half of ep.7 it's just that, including a lot of borderline ecchi fanservice. After that it suddenly switches to a tournament. Again, no real conflict unless you count matches. This anime is mostly about Vivio and Einhart. Nanoha only shows up a few times, mostly as Vivio's mom, and Fate only takes part in the training camp. Hayate barely appears. And to top off the weirdness the series ends before the tournament is even halfway. What the *beep* is up with this anime? I wonder if that Vivid Strike anime continues the story, but considering they removed the "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha" part from the title, it's probably even less related to the original than this is. ETA: It seems a sequel (that presumably continues Vivid's story) was announced at some point, but never made. Watched it again, this time while reading the manga. Like Andrea said, this anime covers most of the first 6 vols. There are some details left out of course, and there's a tiny little bit from vol.7. The only extra bit I noticed is Nanoha and Vivio talking about Einhardt and Corona fighting eachother instead of Nove talking about it with all four of Team Nakajima. Both the manga and anime are heavy on the fanservice. It really is hard to recommend this to others. |
| Magical Girl Pretty Sammy (OAV) | Decent | Recommended by Tricky. The TV series might be a better retelling of this OVA, but I figure watching this as well might give some insight in how it relates to the main Tenchi Muyo setting. First ep. is fairly tame, but wow, are there a lot of characters. I kinda recognize Sasami, Misao and Washu, but the others.. :/ Ep.2 is very '90s, with a Bill Gates-lookalike taking over the world with his OS. Ep.3 hints at some more background that isn't in this OVA. All three eps. are rather stand-alone really. I don't think it's based on a manga, is it? Well, maybe the series will have more info. |

Also, the movie trailer is fake and the same length as the other extras, so that probably counts as 7 extras, not 6. Anyway, nothing special really, just some sillyness. |
| Magical Meow Meow Taruto (TV) | Good | Looks like it'll be fun. A little childish, but still fun. The premise is interesting. Anthropomorphized cats, but living like regular housecats. Aww, that was cute ^_^ There were quite a few deus ex magica/convenient coincidences, but it was still fun. |
| Magical Play (ONA) | So-so | :) If it weren't for Zucchini's violence, this would be a cute children's anime. Mustard is voiced by Nanae Katou (Princess Tutu's Ahiru and Shugo Chara's Miki) ^_^ Then suddenly in ep.3, bad trans joke to the max :( Padudu is like a cross between AzuDai's Osaka and Chiyo. Too bad the anime has so many bad parts. |
| Magical Project S (TV) | So-so | Hmm, first ep. has pretty much the same intro/backstory as the OVA's first ep., but the secondary characters have changed a bit. Mihoshi is now a teacher, Tenchi and someone else (Momo?) are Sasami's parents instead of whatshername, and Kiyone and Washu I haven't seen yet. Oh, Sasami's parents are Ginji and Honoka. Guess they're new characters then. Kiyone shows up in ep.6 and Washu in ep.7. That leaves only Aeka and Ryouko? Ep.10 is a "Wtf kinda plot is this?" ep. Oh, even Tenchi gets a cameo in ep.12. And then there are a bunch more nonsense filler eps. Ep.19 is the first with real plot progress again. Oh, toward the end of the series things suddenly get busy. Ep.22 introduces a short-lived new magical girl and a new bigger bad (Aeka), ep.23 a new ally (Ryouko) and a new objective. The ending is grand, but also has a lot of nonsense. Overall, not really great. |
| Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (TV) | Decent | DargonXtc's avatar got me curious :) It started great. The first ep. reminded me of Dennou Coil, an adults' world viewed through kids' eyes. The second ep. was like Excel Saga or the Lucky☆Star OVA, a parody of RPGs. Then ep. 3 got all ecchi with a space hunt for Arumi's panties. *sigh* It could've been a new favorite, but that just ruined it. Well, the rest of the eps. are likewise hit or miss. Some are great, some are meh. I think the whole anime would've been better without Sasshi actually. Arumi is clearly the more interesting character. |
| Magical Sisters Yoyo & Nene (movie) | Very good | :) Nice movie. A little disappointing that Nene didn't get to do much though. And Aki. The last third or so feels like the makers found action/drama more important than the story and making sense. The rest of the movie is a bit chaotic too. Overall definitely not bad, but it could have been better. Maybe if they'd made it into a longer TV series instead. |
| Magical Somera-chan (TV) | Not really good | Came across this on AniDB looking up Ai Mai Mii. Likewise short comedy. As ultra-short comedies go, this is one of the more nonsensical. It also has rather crude jokes now and then. There are a few funny parts, but they're pretty rare. Well, the whole anime only takes 36min.+OPs, so it wasn't too hard to sit through. |
| Magical Witch Punie-chan (OAV) | Decent | The animation quality is not very high, but that's okay, the story isn't deep either. It's fairly short as well, but that's okay too because the violence joke would get too repetitive otherwise. |

| Maho Girls Precure! (TV) | Very good | Because I'm caught up with previous PreCure seasons, I started this season before its finished. Only three weeks left, but I hope the fansubs don't fall behind so I can finish this in one go. I'm still considering doing a not-so-anglicized release of this, but it's hard to decide on better translations. It'd be a lot of work anyway, so I'm not sure.. Hmm, I think I'm going a little too fast to stretch this until the end, so I'll have to cut down the number of eps. I watch a day to just one or two :/ Anyways, this season is again kinda light on battles, like Suite before. On one hand it's to be expected that they use more magic than physical attacks, but magic is actually not used in battles, only the four finishers. Well, so far the characters are pretty nice. Too bad one of the more interesting enemies, Sparda, had to go first. I already know she comes back (temporarily?) later on, but still.. Oh, Felice already appears in ep.21. And the OP is updated right afterwards. That's better than some other seasons which kept their old OP too long. Ah, Magical and Miracle are suddenly super weak against these Yokubaaru, they don't even use normal attacks but resort to Linkle Stones immediately. Cue Felice of course, who subdues it like it's nothing. The new ED is bleh though. Ep.25. Yamoh really is starting to feel like a mentally disordered character like Leah said. Ep.45 is too much of an infodump. Plus Oruba's plot twist should've been foreshadowed better. Even a few questions here and there of where (Dokuro)Kushii's power came from or what awakened the Eternal Chaos bunch would've been enough. And that's the end of MTPC's main story. The last ep. is a crossover sidestory with the next season (apparently that's been a thing in tokusatsu for years). There was some more info dumped in the last few eps. The final battle wasn't really that big and ep.49 was mostly Riko and Mirai being separated. Nice touch to see them grown up, but it wasn't really necessary to postpone their reunion that long. The final ep. was indeed more like an OVA or movie. Cameos by most characters from the series, and a villain that wasn't really. Cure Whip/Ichika only had two short appearances, it wasn't a real crossover. Also, conveniently de-aged main characters to avoid canon adult Cures. So, yeah, pretty meh. Overall, I think this was a pretty good season. Not without flaws (too many villains to give each of them depth, lack of foreshadowing of a big plot twist, infodumping at the end), but one of the better seasons. |
| Mahoraba ~Heartful days~ (TV) | Very good | Oh dear. It looks like this'll be another harem/romantic comedy anime :/ Well, it isn't really a harem anime after all. The romantic comedy, as usual, is sometimes funny and other times not so much. This anime however succeeds by having more character development (can't call it a plot because the situation doesn't change much). The last few episodes in particular are very good. |

| Mardock Scramble: The First Compression (movie) | Very good | It's hard to decide how I feel about this movie. At the beginning I was afraid the girl would be just another body to ogle and then throw away, but she's actually saved, and her backstory is actually spelled out instead of just alluded to. She's the main character, and her feelings are not ignored in favor of getting on with the plot and action. So, although the details are scary to learn about, this movie is actually better than several other anime series or movies where the main character's backstory is either mentioned and then ignored, or held up for the enjoyment of the viewers. That said though, the camera is very much male gaze. The style reminded me more of Akira actually than Ghost In The Shell. Maybe it was all the gore. The story so far was more upbeat though, so that would be more like GitS, except not as navel-gazing. |
| Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion (movie) | Good | Hmm, that was a bit less action than the first movie. More navel-gazey indeed. The first half didn't really seem connected to the main story, just a distraction. The second half makes me wonder why a casino would feel the need to cheat. They already make tons of money without it. Anyway, on to the third part. Let's see how they'll finish this story in just one more hour. |
| Mardock Scramble: The Third Exhaust (movie) | Very good | A decent ending to the story. First more gambling, then some emotional memory diving, then more fighting. The gambling parts were a little meh (supposedly profound chats over ordinary cards or roulette). The battles were flashy, but rather magical if you think about it. Balot's story was okay; well, her circumstances are not okay obviously, but the story is gripping. There could've been a whole lot less male gaze though, and more variety in the secondary characters (aside from Bell Wing they are all men) and their interactions with Balot (everyone talks at her, but there's hardly any compassion; it's all so detached). All in all I'd say it's kinda between cyberpunk and post-cyberpunk. |
| Maria Watches Over Us (TV) | Good | Wow, there are quite a lot of terms and names to remember right away. It looks like it will be a pleasant way to pass the time, even if it isn't outstanding. It was nice indeed. A little out of order regarding christmas and valentine's day, but that's just details. I wonder if there will be some actual romance in later seasons. |

On the other hand, two girls having a phobia for men is a little too much to believe as well. I'll finish watching this series, but Marimite isn't going to make my top favorites. It's just too stiff and far-fetched. |
| Maria Watches Over Us 4th Season (TV) | Good | It looks like Touko is going to be the one to join the regular cast, not Kanako :/ Well, Touko became a little nicer this season. I still think they stretched out the whole petite soeur drama for too long though. I wanted to see Yumi and Touko together more. And Noriko and Nana of course. Maybe there'll be a fifth season. |
| Maria Watches Over Us Season 2: Printemps (TV) | Good | The story continues with the same slices of life. I found it a little strange to see Yumi's brother and Sachiko's fiancé suddenly show up. I hope they leave them out in later seasons. Oh, and Touko too. She just annoys me. |
| Mary and The Witch's Flower (movie) | Good | Hmm, not a bad movie. Visually quite nice, but the story feels, I dunno, a little lacking. It abbreviates the introduction rather a lot. Understandable for a movie, but it left me less invested in the characters. The ending also leaves some threads unresolved (what happened to the other flowers that Mary didn't pick, what happened to Charlotte, what happened to Charlotte's home and the broom, did the transformation experiments stop or not, etc., etc.). And a few parts of the story feel a little overblown. Again, some of it is understandable for a movie aimed at all ages, but I'd have liked a little more nuance here and there. |
| Mass Effect: Paragon Lost (movie) | Weak | This movie seems to have more of a team of MCs than the Dragon Age one. Leader is a guy again though, and the one woman is even more of a smurfette than the DA movie's MC was. 44min. in before she's damseled, and that's after the female secondary chars. have been either damseled or been the load for a while. Which brings it down to one smurfette load :( Well, at least the art is wonky 2D this time instead of wonky 3D :/ Wow, that was some downer ending. Everyone died except for Treeya, Vega and whatshisface nobody important. I suppose that's how it fits in with the rest of the franchise? :/ |

| Megane na Kanojo (OAV) | Decent | Four short vignettes which all have a little to do with girls wearing glasses. The last one was a bit weak, and the second one, though sweet, didn't have much to do with glasses really. Then again, glasses aren't really things you can make stories of, unless they were more than just that. |
| (The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) | Very good | Someone should've warned me that the eps. were out of order. The series' premise is weird enough already. Good thing I caught on by ep. 4. I liked the premise, and overall the series was fun. I certainly could have done without most of the fanservice though, and Kyon's thoughts about that. I hope a possible second season has more plot than the episodes added after the main story of the first season. Those were all one or two ep. short stories without any plot development. I'd like to hear more about Yuki's and Mikuru's backgrounds. I wish I had watched this series before Lucky Star so I could get all the references :) |
| (The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV 2009 renewal) | Good | Is this the complete series, including the eps. from season 1? Probably, since it has 28 eps. And are they in the right order this time? I hope they are, because I didn't see a different one. Anyway, Haruhi eh? It's been a long time since I watched the first season. I've heard some good and bad things about this new season. Let's see what it's like. Hmm. I think the parts from the first season were updated a little too. The new parts were okay. The endless eight episodes weren't as bad as advertised, but endless four would have been enough. Still, they did a nice job making each episode just slightly different. The other new parts were good, altough they were all set in between old parts. No sequel stuff. Was Itsuki always such a cynical philosopical type? He certainly came across worse than I remember. Overall, season two isn't a bad extension of the story, but it definitely doesn't have the impact that season one had. Let's watch the movie next to see if that finally adds something really new. Second time watching this, after a random prompt from a review of the BD. It's still good. I still think "Endless Eight" was admirable but maybe a little too long. By now I've gotten desensitized to the fanservice and Kyon's focus on it. The old eps. were not updated in any way, only upscaled. Itsuki really is a cynical philosopher, and, was Mikuru always such a moeblob? Her older version is more normal at least. I wish the sci-fi stuff got more attention than just convenient deus-ex-Yuki solutions now and then. |

| Mermaid Forest (TV) | Good | This series actually contains the two OVAs listed in the Encyclopedia, along with a few more episodes. This anime is actually pretty good. It's sort of mild horror, mystery. The only thing missing is a proper ending, but I suppose that fits the story too. |
| Michiko & Hatchin (TV) | Not really good | It seems they don't shy away from the fanservice. Again with the "English reversioned" in the credits. What does that mean? Hmm, apparently it's just Funimation's phrase for 'translated', but it still sounds a bit ominous, so I got another fansub instead. Well, what to say about this anime? Most importantly, the story doesn't really go anywhere. It's just Michiko and Hatchin travelling in pursuit of Hiroshi 'McGuffin' Morenos, getting into trouble because of Michiko, escaping the guards or police coming after them, repeat. Eventually they meet him in the last half of the last ep., but then the ending gets a bit weird, with Michiko sending Hatchin away, seemingly to turn herself in afterwards. Then a timeskip and they meet up again. Hatchin is likeable enough, but Michiko has a serious attitude problem. She always punches or shoots first, then belatedly considers asking. Always angry. The whole roadtrip would've been quite uneventful if Michiko were nicer. Finally, the art quality starts off very good, then slumps to middling, plunges to awful ugly off-model for one or two eps., then comes back to middling at the end. I'm not really a fan of roadtrip stories. They're so pointless. Everything good or bad is forgotten as soon as the MCs move on to the next town. Michiko has her moments, but most of the time is only tolerable because of her attachment to Hatchin. And they're separated rather often. All in all I wouldn't recommend this anime. |

| Mikagura School Suite (TV) | Very good | Yuri? At least it openly purports to. I wonder if Friedman mentioned it? Hmm, the first ep. is pleasantly wacky. The female-male balance among the main cast is a little off for an anime that wants to be yuri (4-5), but we'll see where it goes. Wait, who's the girl with the purple hair? It's not Katai; they were shown together in one of the ED stills. Ep.4 and she hasn't appeared yet. Wow, it took until the end of ep.5 before she showed up. Mid-season power-up? So it turned out to be a love triangle between Eruna, Otone and Seisa, with Eruna in the middle. Lovely ^_^ Oh, and the female-male ratio wasn't really unbalanced after all. It's a little hard to keep track of all the secondary characters, but I think there were about equal numbers of both. Can I buy this anime? |
| Minami-ke (TV) | Good | Reminds me of several other slice-of-life/comedy anime, in good ways that is. Lucky Star, Hidamari Sketch and Azumanga Daioh come to mind. Minami-ke has its own style though. There is a lot of juvenile comedy that comes very close to fanservice/ecchi territory at times, but it doesn't become unbearable. The art is crisp, and the characters all have enough personality to make their interactions interesting, especially Chiaki and Kana. Haruka is a bit of a Nadeshiko by contrast. |

| Minami-ke Tadaima (TV) | Good | Looks like this season's art is a lot better again. It varies a lot over the seasons, doesn't it? Wow, the animation got very limited in the last few eps. Out of budget? It feels like they were running out of interesting material by the time of Tadaima. Many jokes are just variations on earlier ones or aren't really that funny. Only one OVA left now. |

| Minami-ke: Okaeri (TV) | Good | And here we go with season three. I'm having a little trouble remembering who is who, but the Minami sisters are funny as always. Because this season was produced by the same company as the second, I was expecting it to be of the same so-so quality. It is quite good though, about as I remember the first season to be. Yay :) (second time watching) The last two episodes do have bad art though, except different from Okawari. |
| Minami-ke: Okawari (TV) | So-so | It's awfully obvious that this season wasn't made by the same company who did the first season. Haruka is suddenly more assertive, but all the other characters had their personality reduced to a bland average. Chiaki and Kana are just two annoying kids now, and the rest of the extensive cast is only distinguished by looks. Speaking of looks, it seems all the girls got bigger breasts too this season. Not something I'd normally notice, but the jokes rather focus on it. The art is still decent, but not as detailed as the first season. On all counts Okawari is like a cheaper imitation of the first Minami-ke. |
| Minami-ke: Omatase (OAV) | Good | 2nd OVA for season 3 (Okaeri). The art is better here, but the eyes look a little different. Nothing really special here, just more Minami-ke ^_^ |
| Miss Hokusai (movie) | Good | Historical, female main character. Seems like something I'd enjoy watching, even if it's not top entertainment. Hmm, an interesting movie. There isn't much of a plot or story here, just a slice of Oei's life. Visually it has some pretty neat art. |
| Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (TV) | Decent | Seems to be a good slice-of-life comedy, and someone compared Kanna to Non Non Biyori's Renge. And then Leah said it has some icky stuff, so I'm a bit apprehensive. Ep.1 did have some questionable stuff. I hope they tone that down or forget about it entirely and bring on the cute. Well, it turned out kinda mixed. There is a lot of cute (Kanna, and Kobayashi×Tohru), some interesting (dragons adjusting to human society and friendship in general), and then some meh (Fafnir), annoying (Kobayashi's occasional maid obsession, Lucoa's gag boobs), and icky (Lucoa×Shouta, Saikawa×Kanna). Overall there's more good than bad, but the not good is never more than a few minutes away. So, it's okay, but not great. |
