I'm excited to read anything written by Narita. I'm surprised Kubo didn't create the cover; on the one hand it's still his series, on the other I can imagine he's taking a helluva break after drawing almost nonstop for so many years.

Makoto Matsubara is the writer, not the artist, the cover is drawn by Kubo.

Possibly relevant to this is the dubbed Rukia was the dubbed Anri.

a novel is cool, but an anime continuation is better. how long must we wait?

Most likely forever? The ratings of the series absolutely tanked both on TV and in the magazine.
Filler arcs for the anime literally had better ratings than canon.
Adapting the worst arc of the series is not very likely to yield much success.

I'm just curious as to why everyone wanted Rukia & Ichigo together.

Regardless of whether you saw them as platonic or not, their bond definitely had more focus than Rukia and Renji.

I personally didn't want any pairings. This is not what Bleach was ever about, and I'm a bit sad they went the generic Naruto route of marriage and kids.

Because people typically latch onto the first man and woman on a panel together regardless of what is actually going on in the story.
Anyway, I suppose this is interesting but I find it funny that the novel is about the wedding day and not the courtship (though I get this image of Byakuya chasing Renji around the manor with Senbonzakura after asking for Rukia's hand in marriage).

Because they seemed to compliment one another much better than Ichigo and Orihime ever did, IMO. It also seemed like Uryu had a thing or Orihime (at least it did early on). I thought Orihime and Uryu had decent chemistry, but Orihime never had eyes for anyone but Ichigo.
Full Disclosure: I never liked Orihime, and never saw what Ichigo could've seen in being with her. It must be some sort of Japanese cultural thing, because I never liked Hinata, either, and Orihime seems to be very similar to her in personality.

Want to know a fun fact, in the English dub Orihime and Hinata both have the same voice actress

I like your answer.

Because apparently in most shounen manga the male MC isn't supposed to marry because he's a man and men are meant to be free to do whatever they want and not be tied down by something like marriage.

It sounds like you're judging these two girls based on their skill level rather than how they truly feel about the MC.
"Orihime isn't as strong as Rukia, so she's not worthy enough for Ichigo."
"Aww, Hinata doesn't punch Naruro in the face like Sakura. They have no reason to be together."
That's what people are thinking and unfortunately will continue to think.
