Not surprised by Mysteria Friends because it has short episodes and seems to have been well received. Cutie Honey Universe on the other hand is surprising because it seems to have come and gone, and there was not much fan awareness and interest of it.

I'm POSITIVE they announced a Cutie Honey Universe dub LAST YEAR with a different cast.
Someone else was named for Cutie Honey. That they got Calvello to do this again could be good. I'll be honest -- if anything can save that show, it might be the dub performances. As far as the rest of CHU is concerned, the show has problems. It was far from my favorite Cutie Honey anime... Not surprised it's going LE. |

Admittedly I only saw the first 5 episodes of CHU, other stuff came up and I never got back to it. From what I watched I liked it a lot, I know a lot of people fount it dated, the statue statue scene was something many people wished had never returned, known of it bothered me. My only issue was with the use of CG.
@GeorgeC are you sure that it was from a reliable source, this is the first I've heard about a dub. |

CHU wasn't the best Go Nagai, but as someone who was new to the franchise, I enjoyed it and I liked seeing the different forms of Honey and the bad guys. I'll be glad to see this getting a dub and BD release because it will be great to own the show.

Sentai has a history with this property going back to when ADV had New Cutey Honey and Jessica returning is a pretty big deal considering she was Go Nagai's hand-picked voice actress for that OVA back then. If anything, this is getting similar treatment to what Ushio & Tora's reboot got, even down to getting a Limited Edition (which is surprising) which would make this the first Go Nagai title to get one here since NIS America's Enma-kun Meeramera release in 2012 (and unlike that release, this one looks a lot better). |

Mentioning these two shows together sounds pretty funny, SF licensed them as a kind of pack of yuri and yuri-ish anime?

The clip sounded ok, pretty par for the course for a Sentai show. Not great, but not offensive.

It looks like David Wald has taken up the mantle of a full time ADR Director for Houston dubbing. David seems to be fairly passionate about his directing work tho possessing immense passion for said work doesn't automatically mean its going to translate into the actual performances of his dubs.I feel David is at the moment a fairly decent ADR Director but not an exceptional one. This tends to be the case for a lot of directors currently working in the Texas dubbing market. Wald's casting shows promise with the duel settings of various actors from different regions coming together for different dubbing productions under his direction. I am curious to check out the upcoming Kokkoku dub that he recently directed. It would be a breath of fresh air to see Houston ADR Directors actually invest in casting outside of the status quo bubble and bring in more local acting talent from The Alley Theater. I haven't seen anyone in recent memory outside of the retired Steven Foster cast acting talent from The Alley Theater in quite a few years. I will definitely keep an eye on Wald's future directing projects Kyle Jones is probably currently the only ADR Director working in Houston dubbing while not consistently remarkable manages to pull together the most refreshing casts for his dubbing productions. I'll be checking out the Cutie Honey Universe dub once its released hoping to see a Matt Greenfield cameo in the dub given how critical a factor he played in the casting and direction of the ADV dub of the New Cutey Honey OVAs.

That would be nice but I’d rather have Re: Cutie Honey. |

Why not both? I would also like to add Cutie Honey: The Live since that show was very entertaining....also would like a New Cutie Honey rescue since like Re:, that too got a Blu-ray release a few years back and also looks good. |

They had an article about Sentai/S23 doing a dub for CHU on ANN last year! THey actually announced a cast which was surprising to me but I guess things changed between then and now. I'm seriously surprised Calvello came back as Cutie Honey. I'm positive they had cast someone else. I wonder if she's actually seen the series because CHU really isn't that good... It's a very generic production with a lousy theme song -- it's NOT the classic Cutie Honey theme which is owned by Toei which DID NOT provide production assistance on CHU. The direction was listless on CHU and it was just... Ugh. I'm surprised I got through all 13 episodes! I'm really, really surprised Sentai is even bothering with it a year later TBH. |
