The gang is back together. Glad its not A-1 this time. SE really liked going to them this past decade for their games. Kouki is returning as expected. Oh snap! Ichikawa is directing. I liked him during MonSuto then they changed directors in the next season when they went CG. I see they're changing stuff up for modern times. Thats what happens when they wait so long to do an anime.

I never expect much from an anime based off a game(with a few exceptions)but this looks pretty decent.

It looks so faithful to the game's art it's uncanny, but I'm not sure if that would translate to animation well.

Yes, this. And I think I can articulate what's uncanny about it.

The game's art was supposed to evoke graffiti, which worked great on the DS because the technical limitations demanded mostly static images anyway (they wanted space on the card for a fully digital, non-midi soundtrack, therefore they didn't use pre-rendered video and kept the number of drawings low). As anime, it looks over-animated even in shots that aren't all that animated for anime. The jump to high definition from the DS screens' resolution doesn't help either. You can't take a style tailor-made for flash-like, ultra-limited animation on a tiny screen and expect it to translate directly to modern anime.

For better or worse, The World Ends With You is probably inextricable from the DS. (I know there are ports for other platforms, but it's not the same game without two screens and a stylus. Anyway, this is about art style so I digress.)

So glad the art style is this way, that's what I wanted most, lol! Looks fun and I understand that they have to update for today's setting and tech. Hopefully not too much of a story change or at least in the spirit of it.

So is this gonna be dubbed? After the FFXV anime didn't get one I'm starting to be skeptical of Square Enix property based anime getting dubs, even with a game that had only English voices in the west.

Not just Neku's; every main character's voice actor is returning.

I'm surprised and delighted by the look of this PV. The thick lines and vivid colors just pop so well. As someone who was only vaguely aware of TWEWY in its hay-day, I am super curious to check this out when it premieres.

The animation looks really cool, I think some or all of it was cel-shaded CG. I haven't played TWEWY but I remember being a big deal when it came for the DS,, but I still wonder why it took so long for it to have an anime adaptation. I do not think that SE will make a sequel, I don't know if the Switch version did well or not.
BTW, is it still called "It's a Wonderful World" in japanese?

The voice over in the trailer called it "subarashiki kono sekai the animation", so yeah.
