BitTorrent Retail Marketplace is, as the name implies, geared towards being a "pay to download" service, however Azureus has made no mention of how much, if anything at all, will be charged for titles.

And that would be the key, how much each episode cost. Most of us are still waiting on Death Note episodes to be released by VIz, and are still waiting for the bottom line price. I am glad that the anime industry is moving into the online world, since I think that it can help with sales, and reaching new people.

Isn't the point of Bittorrent to (somewhat) safely send and receive files of questionable legality? Why are these companies bothering when HTTP downloads are way more convenient, which is what paying customers want.

No, that's not the point of BitTorrent. Bram Cohen made the BitTorrent protocol to be a method of distributing large amounts of data widely without the original distributor incurring the whole of the corresponding costs of hardware, hosting and bandwidth resources.

Fansubbers were the ones to decide to use BitTorrent as their main distribution method, since it is so effective and fast.

And its a bootleg copy of it.... They are not going to get any other companies to sell them content if they don't police their content.

1) BitTorrent is lower overhead for them, saving them money
2) BitTorrent is trendy (meaning a lot of fans know what it is and how to use it)

In short BitTorrent has the POTENTIAL to deliver equivalent (or better) download speeds with a lower investment from the distributor. However, the REALITY could be somewhat different. It depends on whether people are willing to help seed content that they had to pay for.

i agree the potential for bt is out there as a cost solution but what does that mean for the consumers. the main problems for bt is always been the seeding. is there gonna be dedicated seeders and what about leechers? seriously if i pay for the dl why should i waste time seeding Anime smile, what benefits other than personal ones would i get out of it.

That is a good point. Many stop seeding once their file is fully downloaded which means less distributed copies and slower speeds and frankly who wants to pay for something that takes a long time to download?

If copyrighted content is going to be distributed via bt - I wonder how that will affect the fansubbing community that relies so heavily on it. Will bt going the way of Napster?

Hmm... wonder why they didn't just go with iTunes?

If Zudeo is the download app and the files are DRM'd then what will the player be?

I meant, is it not the adopted point of BT. And how is it going to save them money? They still have to pay for dedicated seeding servers, which, if this takes off, will be running 24/7, as no one in their right mind will buy a film and then waste their bandwidth sending to other people, that concept only works when the content is free and people do it for community benefit. When you bring business into it, then there's no community and no one gives a damn about anything except getting their purchase.
