I have to say that the trailer for the Dharuriser movie is so profoundly, gloriously wholesome in its earnestness that words fail me (I'm afraid I have no idea if that site works outside Japan, though).
You may notice from the trailer that Dharuriser's Miss Koroitsu appearance actually recreates a scene in the film. |

As someone who don't care for Toku I really don't mind that all the reference go over my head, I'm just happy that I can get a workplace show that's actually about workplace rather than it just being another highschool rom com in disguise and if need to be about toku for that to happen, that's a price I'm willing to pay.
My biggest disappointment is the fan service that's never really that interesting, the tentacle rape monster not caring about gender one was funny, but otherwise there almost all variant of "wolf-boy/girl get's naked, ahah!" which got old after exactly 0 time. Also definitely agree that the part timer is the best part of the show, wished they'd give her more time. |

Glad to see this show getting the attention it deserves! It's not flashy, but the gags are consistently fantastic. It's been punching above its weight the whole time.

Big ditto. I deeply love shows that look into the absurdity of the worlds that genres exist in. Give me the monster development department of a toku. Give me the mecha mechanics. Give me a designer who works exclusively on idol outfits. Give me the construction worker in a superhero society. |

See, the thing is that all the references going over your head is the fan service for this show. The tentacle monster is probably just one of the more accessible jokes. (I personally don't understand the wolf child stuff unless it's a veiled reference to female VA's playing male roles or something, which would be quite prescient) |

This show was not on my radar AT ALL coming into this season, but somewhere along the way it became arguably the anime I'm looking forward to the most each week. The cast is chock-full of charming characters, and the gags hit a lot more than they miss. Hard to ask for much more from a comedy anime. Personally, I don't mind that I don't get every obscure reference -- the show works great as a workplace sitcom regardless.
Also, the OP and ED don't get enough love! If I had to note a negative, I'd say the animation and general art style are lackluster (especially compared to some of the other comedy / slice-of-life shows running this season). Like it's not egregious in that aspect -- just very paint-by-numbers. |

That's exactly it. I know my tastes are weird compared to your average anime fan (for Crissake, I hate Miyazaki) and I try to account for that when I make my write-ups. I try to think of your average teenager at a con who loves Black Clover and might not know of tokusatsu outside of power Rangers (and might be a bit younger than the post-college 20-somethings that are the main cast of the show). And MiniMarps hit the nail on the head: the show isn't aggressively ugly or anything but it has an extremely workmanlike presentation that sadly doesn't do it any favors. I struggle to think any of the people I used to hang out with in college would get much out of Kuroitsu. That said, it's heartening to see this many people stepping up and enjoying it

Add me as another viewer that only knows a bit about Power Rangers/tokusatsu stuff but can still enjoy the show, especially the work related stuff.
As for the limited-time events, I heard show itself became a real life example of that, because that valentine episode was originally meant to be broadcast a week earlier, but missed Valentine Day due to tsunami-related delay of previous episode? Though that makes the moral even stronger, I'd say. |

The only thing I know about tokusatsu is that Hideaki Anno is a fan. I've not even seen Power Rangers (though I guess I've picked up from somewhere that the red one is always the leader?).
But I love Kuroitsu. Thanks for bringing up Dharuriser. I missed the Dharma-dolls-wobble-but-they-don't-fall-down reference in the character's schtick (you can knock him down, but he'll still get up) until you brought it up. It's even there in his name. When you say that Miss Gig-Worker is anime original --- does that mean there's a manga? Do wish they'd drop the mis-gendering of Wolf-kun, though. |

Yup, an original manga by Hiroaki Mizusaki at comic meteor (volumes also available through Amazon) Also, I am liking this series even if my interest for Tokusatsu/Sentai series is quite low. |

My interest in tokusatsu has always been firmly rooted in the daikaiju camp of the genre (eg. Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman by extension - I actually DIDN'T grow up watching Power Rangers, believe it or not), so I don't specifically get most of the references in this show; but it's obvious the story comes from a place of heartfelt love for the genre and the craft. Framing the story as a down-to-earth workplace comedy makes it all the more accessible and endearing.
I do have to wonder why an organization as unusually decent as Agastia is committed to "evil" world domination in the first place. I get it's funnier this way, and explaining their reasons might risk ruining the joke; but I can't help being curious. (My personal developing headcanon: spoiler[it turns out to be sort of a Haruhi Suzumiya situation, where Agastia actually isn't concerned about legit domination, but Lady Akashic is, and since she seems to be very powerful and infulential herself, the Agastia organization is basically just trying to appease her and keep her in check]). While I agree the production values are average, I do at least want to give a shout-out to episode 2 for some really nice city lighting during Kuroitsu's and Megistus's business outing. I do hope Wolf Bete can get a body fix in the future; I generally find the mis-gendered humor awkward for the character. At the very least get him a bishounen or shota form or something that can still be treated as a joke. |

I second the recommendation of Kuroitsu even for non-toku fans. I don't care about tokusatsu at all but I still enjoy it! The basic premise behind those shows is simple enough to grasp that you can figure out what's going on here anyway.

The latest episode featuring spoiler[the pub for retired heroes & villains] had me bursting with laughter over all the references they were making. This show is a real treat.
