I loved the concept of Fine, her prince-like behavior and her relation with Momo that was so strongly colored by the melancholy of her previous, lost love, but after I watched the last episode, I felt that this could be much better series while keeping the same basic premise.
Elisha was pointlessly crazy, I felt the whole arc with fake paradise could be much shorter, so other characters could be given more time in the spotlight. It felt rushed in many places, even though I don't thing the story should be longer than it was. The whole "music is forbidden" seemed unrealistic and like weird attempt at symbolism, while the hint of classism in vampire society - in opposition to Soviet-looking human society - was never explored. We have last fortress of humanity, and yet there are plenty of places where humans and vampires coexist in this or that post-apocalyptic way. I can't say I cared for Momo that much, she was passable, but it was Fine that carried hard the series for me. Allegro and Uncle were interesting characters that deserved more fleshing out, while Mother felt like unnecessary character. The epilogue with unexplained happy end for Momo didn't make me feel anything too, it was too sudden and out of nowhere. Also, while Fine had all the death flags since beginning, and her relation as a few-hundred-old princess with human teenager with a crush was always unlikely to end well, I can't say I was happy with the death scene as lovers' farewell, even if I get why it happened as a obvious end to this kind of story. I kind of wish Fine would end up with Uncle even if platonically (Fine clearly only likes women), and as fellow failed cross-species lovers tried to make that paradise together. Despite the criticism, I liked the show, but mostly because of the wonderful mood of snowy scenes, the Fine dancing in the court and with Momo, the desperate last travel with Momo pulling Fine, and above all Fine's design, her long face with bushy eyebrows perfect for her character, mannerisms, and general demeanor were great and her character designer deserves all the praise. This was stunningly beautiful. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed when it turned out it only had 5 episodes but I must say that it never felt rushed despite that and it managed to tell a beautiful (if short) story in a very satistying way. It also looked absolutely gorgeous and I loved the music, which was so important to the series. By far the best series I've seen this year (by a million lightyears of difference).

At only five episodes, I definitely want to check this out. Blood- also recommended it.

I felt let down by this one. The story was too much to be told in a miniseries, and needed at least ten episodes. The plot's so choppy and went too fast to properly absorb; it felt like minutes that would explain more kept getting cut from each episode, especially at their starts Suddenly Momo's being offered a feast; suddenly she's hallucinating in the bath; suddenly experts have been called in to find her; suddenly they're on a road trip.
I also feel Momo and Fine needed more time to develop a proper relationship. SHOW it happening, writers, and don't tell us by relying on just montages. It also would've been nice to see Momo mourning over her girlfriend a little more. It really seemed as though she got over Mirena's death in a hurry, which only contributed to the rushed feeling of the entire story. The soundtrack wasn't bad, the background art was lovely, and the action scenes and dancing were very well done. I liked the idea of Momo forcing the idea of a paradise to become real, but it would've been a lot better if Fine had been there to see it. I can only imagine what her absence would've forced the vampire society to do, and that's a lot more interesting than what we got. Also, I really hope that poor pug was rescued. So, is "Vampire in the Garden" worth watching? I'm saying no. There are better, less rushed vampire stories out there, so maybe skip this one, folks. Overall, I'm giving this production a D- and a note to see me after class to discuss tutoring options for proper writing and relationship-building techniques. PS: Speaking of writing, the word Nicky wanted was "grisly," meaning "horrifyingly repellent; gruesome, terrifying," such as Myotismon's Grisly Wing attack. A grizzly is a bear. Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the show's overly fast pacing either. It really could have benefited from having more episodes letting things play out more slowly and organically so the audience could have a chance to learn who these characters are and maybe care about them. Plus, I found the story to be a bit too morose and edgy for my liking. |

It definitely needed like 1 or 2 episodes of cool down especially nearly every episode ended with a bombastic action scene. While the tragic ending is (rather frustratingly for me) expected, it would have an even a more gut-wrenching if they use the cool down episodes to really marinate Momo's and Fine's relationship even further.

Surely seems rushed, by what everyone is saying. But I think I'm going to dig it. Specially if the pacing and writing style is reminiscent of the OVA era, one of my all time eras in anime.

Ah, that's why they all looked so familiar. Now I can't unsee that all these characters are straight out of Boruto. Especially the vampire eyes, which are exactly like the Funato in the current interminable arc. Maybe that's why I had so much trouble warming up to this. Overall, I did like it, but I'm glad it was only 5 episodes. Never cared for Momo from the start, so that's a problem too. Fine was cool though. |

I believe this was originally a movie, they just cut it into five 'episodes' for release on Netflix. Not quite sure why.
Anyway, I thought it was very bad. The main characters' relationship is solid, but everything else is poorly ton. Cutting out most of those characters (and some of the bad worldbuilding) would've been to Garden's benefit. |

I was never a fan of the way some Shippuuden episodes rendered the character designs (which look exactly like this, and no surprise because they apparently share the same character designer) from the Naruto manga - always thought they didn't do enough justice to Kishimoto's art, but I've got to say they look quite stunning here. I guess I'll check it out on netflix tonight.
