Whoa that's sad. Just a few weeks ago I was watching the Shogun miniseries and was impressed with her role especially since this was her first English speaking role.

Rip Yoko and I hope the reboot Shogun series that will be airing on the FX channel will give a "In Memory Of" dedication to her.

The Shogun TV series (and the novels later) pretty much introduced me to Japanese culture and history, so I probably wouldn't post here without watching/reading it. Rest in peace.

^^I have the exact same story, my love for Japanese culture began with Shogun. Lady Toda was such an interesting character and Shimada-san really brought her to life. Crying or Very sad

I'll be honest. I didn't see a lot of "Shogun" when it first came out. I was a kid then and didn't know much about it. I saw a little of it later on when it appeared on the History Channel. It's sad that Ms. Shimada passed away. It's a shame she really didn't do a lot more English language roles. It would have been interesting to see. So long,Ms. Shimada. You didn't do much in English but you can't say that they weren't memorable.

RIP ma'am. Sad
