"Konrad Leto". Those jokes are gonna write themselves in the next days huh.

Also, this is quite a surprising turn of events. Makes me wonder if CR was either short on money or no longer interested in continuing to retain the IP, or Netflix and Shuheisha made some backroom deal.

As excited as I am for the movie... I don't really like the implications here that Black Clover is now being split between two companies. Netflix doesn't put out a lot of things onto physical media, so will this movie just never get a physical release then? Granted, they could work with CR to do so, which I hope they do, but still. And what will this mean for when the anime comes back? Will it go to Netflix then, or will CR be able to keep it? Will Netflix make sure to air one episode a week, or will we be forced to wait for batches of episodes to drop, like what we're likely to deal with for the dub? Will that even get a physical release to go along with the rest of the series? Will the dub cast remain the same if Netflix gets it? I mean, there's a fear there now that CR won't get the original cast either, thanks to what they did with MP100 S3, but like... consistency. Especially with a series as long-running as Black Clover is.

I just don't like the implications of this move. Yeah, it's cool that this means that we can likely see the Black Clover movie at the same time as it gets released in Japan. But does this mean that we aren't likely to see it in theaters? Unless Netflix is willing to work with something like Fathom Events to still do a theatrical release in the US, but I'm not sure why they would do that if people can go directly to their service and watch it. Just... I'm happy, but I feel more uncertain overall.

Is this a license split, a co-operation or just Netflix poaching the license? I know a Black Clover LA movie was rumored a while back and that’s right up Netflix’s alley, but it seems odd.

One thing is for sure, it will never air on Toonami again.

From what I've heard, TV Tokyo has the rights for the TV show, so it could remain with CR if possible. The distribution of the movie was handled by Shuheisha, who must likely had a part in giving the license to Netflix if CR was unable to.

And look at Eden's Zero and the Ruronin Kenshin movies, they were dubbed at BangZoom but brought back the Dallas-based VAs to reprise their role or counterparts, so I wouldn't worry too much with this.

None of the above. Movie has its own production committee and thus its own licensing/distribution agreement. Materially this has no effect on the TV series if/when it returns.

So... is this a filler movie or an adaptation of the manga?

Ok, thanks. Reminds me of Netflix randomly getting the Kabaneri movie (remember Steampunk Walking Dead?) after it aired on Amazon.

An original story made for the movie.

I’m surprised they’re gonna air it on Netflix worldwide

This is as much a surprise as HiDive picking up some big anime earlier.

Hope the English dub cast is the same.

They most likely won’t. If Kyle McCarley is to be believed the contract Netflix has with SAG-AFTRA is ironclad and I doubt that the union will permit Netflix to Taft-Hartley virtually an entire cast. Most if not all are going to be gone.

I mean, Thermae Romae Nevae was able to get David Wald, Chris Guerrero, Gianni Matragano, Kent Williams and Jim Foronda in its dub. Maybe it depends on the amount of characters from the original show appearing?

I'd say chances are fairly decent, but it partly depends on the studio. At least a fair number of the cast resides in LA now also. Netflix-licensed shows and LA studios have been better more recently about reprisal casts, so the chances are much higher now than they would have been only a couple years ago. Studiopolis less so than say, Bang Zoom or IYUNO-SDI.

Fingers crossed for Black Clover fans that they get that continuity, especially since it's a longer series and all.

It also depends on the number of reappearing characters for the film, and which ones will be new for it.

I feel like the claims Crunchyroll is just going to recast every LA dub are a bit overblown. Even with Mob Psycho Kyle later came out and clarified that they didn't recast everybody and Crunchyroll was still allowing some remote dubbing to go on for it with reprisals. Most likely Crunchyroll will continue to work with LA actors for legacy shows but all future shows will be Texas only. . But like Crunchyroll isn't going to just recast everybody in SAO or something. Mob Psycho was also a unique situation due to the political conflicts and Kyle has said recently that's not likely to happen again.
