Wait, does this mean Viz Media has the license... and will get it streamed on Netflix, Hulu and Disney+?

I know they should be open to hiring new talent, but isn’t it risky to open this up to any random person off the street? There are established VAs that could use the work.

What? This has nothing to do with Viz. TMS and Bang Zoom are hosting this.

Tbf, the manga was published by Viz, so that's probably why they got confused. And this still doesn't confirm who will be legally streaming the series.

Risky how? It's just an open audition like anything else.

It's probably just for a background character and to promote the series. I doubt they'll cast the leads this way.

I’m honestly curious too, I was honestly thinking it would be CR because usually when Netflix or Disney pick up an anime they tend to announce it a couple of months in advance. Not sure if the studios picking the English VAs will have some effect of CR still picking it up.

I meant like 5-6 months in advance, it’s rare to see them announce it like 3 months away from a series premiere (although now that I remember Disney did announce TR and Heavenly delusion about 2 months before they aired stemming from their Kodansha partnership so maybe Disney might do the same here).

Yeah. There are time when anyone can send in a demo, this just happens to be in-person. Like those, most won't get beyond a "thanks for stopping by." I may be misremembering who it was, but I'm pretty sure Zach Aguilar got started doing one of these. If the person ends up being good, they might have a chance at more roles, but otherwise it's a one-off for something small.

This is a Shonen Jump title, not Kodansha. While it's possible that Disney can license this, it's not automatically guaranteed like Tokyo Revengers, etc. It's most likely going to be picked up by CR, Disney or Netflix.

TMS (as a main producer and/or #1 on committee list) is kind of like Sunrise and Toei, they operate and do certain things their own way even if they license it out to a distributor.

Since apparently it has to be clarified, Bang Zoom has been doing these events at various cons (usually AX and Acen) for almost a decade. They aren't casting the entire show from a bunch of random con attendees over actual voice actors, nor taking "advantage" of fans who desperately want to be in the industry as I've seen some people claim elsewhere. They usually just have a first place winner & a runner-up and give said winner a small (paid) cameo in whatever title they're promoting with said event + a potential opportunity to least least get a foot in the door if it's actually a serious career path they're already on.

Here's one they ran for Magi S2 way back in 2014: animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2014-04-21/aniplex-of-america-and-bang-zoom-entertainment-to-host-open-auditions-for-magi-2

I guess glad to have confirmation that it's getting dubbed and it's getting an LA Dub.

I could be wrong but didn't Kira Buckland get in through one too? Or maybe she was just noticed for all the web animation she voiced.

Now I want Zach Hadel to show and do an off-the-wall rant through his dub audition.
