Good to know that the new chapters' summary sounds like it should be "more crap done to kids" which means a continuation of what has happened to this point. I think I can wait until the conclusion before checking this out further... Confused

Yeah, I really enjoy this new arc and things coming together, new group we met is very fun and intriguing, some older characters gets screentime and exploration ( Yay Ozen and Umbra Hands) and of course the artstyle is so good, don't have much issue following it. I'm honestly largely immune to Tsukushi's weirdness and don't get uncomfortable, if else it adds unique vibe to the manga since fetishization is done in rather unusual way, not being recommend it it's not a big deal.

So MiA continues to be a problematic masterpiece. It’s a shame the author plays all uncomfortable scenes for comedy. I think the fetishy material could really play into the horror of the Abyss if it was handled with some sensitivity. The only saving grace is that I don’t recall there being much fetishization of sexual violence.

Going by the frequent narrative text, the Abyss, its environs and contents, seems like a rather stinky place.

One of the noteworthy oddities of Made in Abyss is the amount of attention paid to not very pleasant smells. This was particularly noteworthy in the City of the Golden Dawn --- especially that restaurant that Riko ate at on occasion. Faputa's "sunshine and potatoes" came a something of a relief.

...the glacial pace with which Tsukushi has produced new chapters over the past few years, we'll be waiting a long time. Sometimes, six months elapse between (admittedly lengthy, gorgeously-drawn) chapters.

I can remember that one Nausicaa manga chapter ended on a cliff-hanger with Nausicaa's head in the jaws of a maddened insect. Meanwhile, Miyazaki went off and made two movies (Totoro and Kiki, I think), and it was three years before he returned to the story.

ANN Reviewer Level Impossible: Review anything MiA without mentioning anything about the negative of sexualised minors.

Bro it's actually like baked into the dna of the series. It's honestly a consistent bad smell in an otherwise gorgeous fantasy-horror adventure series with a really interesting premise and world.

EXACTLY! That is what is so annoying. Im sorry if youre more than 10 volumes deep and STILL complaining about it....maybe dont read the series at that point? Its a broken record at this point. Its exceedingly popular and everytime anyone brings it up its annoying. Same with stuff like Jobless Reincarnation. Like the series is gonna be popular without the same puritan comments with each new volume.

Yeah, I wasn't agreeing with any of whatever this is you're on about above. I meant more "This stuff is almost always present, and if not, the reader is reminded of it sooner or later. Most people aren't into sexualized minors, and thus hearing that opinion is going to be part and parcel with reading reviews/commentary about this series". Personally, I'm invested in the world and where the story is heading; I'm not condoning the author's fetishes.

While the anime — mostly — tones down this aspect,

And this is 90% of why I will continue to just wait and consume this story only through the anime (the other 10% is the soundtrack).
