Man, I didn't know the area had started to accommodate to the fans. If I knew that I would've stopped by while I was living in Japan! I lived in Saitama, where that city is, so it wouldn't've been hard to get there. I would've loved just to see what it was like.

That was actually a really good article.
Having seen my fair share of Man-Chiis, etc I can't really bring myself to think that men cosplaying as female characters is really that strange. But I like how the article focused much more on the positive effects on the local economy and how most of the people are friendly and good natured, instead of emphasizing how strange they might be. Though I'm not sure that's going to help the birth rate much. Real girls aren't evil, and I'd encourage everyone to try to discover that on their own. Didn't Densha Otoko help to show that? |

Anyways, having this on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, even though mainly positive, still doesn't help the general portrayal of otaku as weirder than even Trekkies (who usually don't cross-play). It's good for businessmen though. |

Hey, anytime some TV show is going to boost my business's economy, go ahead and bring it on! For a while the people at the shrine were indeed hesitant about it, but I'm glad that they saw the opportunity of what was to come.

I love how ANN picks and chooses it's news in a way that makes it look like they are promoting Kadokawa products. Never mind the other instance of anime in the news (talking about the Academic Society on Gundam one featuring doctors which is just Craaaaaazy!), Lucky Star is more important. Just saying it seems that way.
But yeah if there was ever any doubt that Lucky Star is one of the most heavily commercialized products to come out of Japan in recent memory (and I don't see how there could be even when just looking at the characters themselves and what they do in the strips) then this should dispell it. |

I was in Japan right before it started airing, and the amount or promotion going on for it in Akihabara was astounding. I'm not sure if overall it's as successful as Haruhi as a show, but they're definitely trying to commercialize it in every way they can. They've released like 25 audio cds! |
