I'd been collecting Comp Ace for Kiddy GiRL-and Pure, but due to the expense of shipping I've not had an issue since April Sad
If the June issue is a special it is bound to sell out quickly as well.

haha yeah, even if i got my hands on the magazine it'd be pretty hopeless for me to even try to understand it. Oh well.

Guess my best bet is to hope somebody scan-lates it or something. /shrug

Is Strike Witches popular just because of the character designs? Or is there actually a good story behind? In other words, would it be worth watching if the characters were dressed more and clearly of an older age? Or is it purely a bait show?

Quote:
The North American anime distributor Funimation released the first Strike Witches television anime season

Would it not be more correct to say that they will release the first...

I orginally bought Strike Witches because it seemed like something so rediculous that i had to see it. Generally i'm put off by blatant fanservice in series (unless it's used humorisly like in the Negima manga and such).
Honestly, I was pleastly surprised, the fanserice is really out there and gives the show a pretty bad rep, but at it’s core Strike Witches is a character driven drama/comedy. It more or less uses a “monster of the week” format so the story depends on character devlopment/interation to sell itself, which I thought it did really well.

You should probably check it out, it’s a fun watch, I own it and I’m happy I decided to get it. If you can pick up on the refrences to WW2 it becomes even more fun. (for example each of the Strike Witches is based on a real life ace pilot and aircraft.)

Urotan has drawn adult Strike Witches doujinshi in the past. Kind of interesting that he would be chosen to draw an official manga, because his doujinshi were just bukkake featuring Lucchini.

I haven't heard of cases where a doujinshi artist gets to work on the official version of the same title since I don't really keep track of who's who but it wouldn't surprise me. I get the impression many, if not the majority of commercial artists (both male and female) have worked on or still work on doujinshi.

The To Aru Kagaku no Railgun mangaka, Motoi Fuyukawa, is a doujin artist and likewise is the character designer for Seirei no Moribito anime, Asou Gatou, for example. But yeah, maybe working on the same titles is a more rare combination; maybe some publishers have reservations about it.

The only doujin artist that I know to have moved from doujinshi to drawing the official manga are Aki Eda, Hiroshi Hiroyama and Urotan, but I'm sure that there are a lot more that I don't know.

I suspect most artists start out with doujin (in the general meaning of self-published, not just "tribute" works) - CLAMP is a famous example.
IIRC the artist for Negima neo was a doujin artist, although I don't know if they actually Negima doujin. For that matter Akamatsu himself has done doujin.

Well yeah what you said makes me feel a little better about it. And I like historical references. But...

Stuff like this gives me pause for concern. Laughing Seriously.

If that is the talent pool they are drawing from I can't imagine it is much more than a fluff piece that happens to have a story. Then again manga adaptations from anime are usually quite different, I realize that, but still.
