Japanese software developer Celsys' popular CLIP STUDIO PAINT EX software, previously only available for PC, launched for iPad on Tuesday. Many of Japan's leading manga creators are celebrating the illustration and manga creation program's new release.
The official Clip Studio YouTube channel began streaming a promotional video for the release in seven languages. The video demonstrates the iPad app and includes comments from manga creators.
People who download the app until December 20 will be able to use it free for six months. The regular monthly fee will be 980 yen or US$8.99. The app is available in Japanese, English, Spanish, German, French, traditional Chinese, and Korean.
Manga, light novel, and anime creators including Yana Toboso (Black Butler), Suzuhito Yasuda (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Durarara!!), Hiroyuki (Aho Girl, Doujin Work, The Comic Artist and His Assistants), and Mitsurou Kubo (Yuri!!! on Ice) all marked the release with posts on Twitter. Voice actress and singer Shōko Nakagawa also said she is looking forward to downloading and using the app.
Some creators already tried the new iPad app. Kubo posted an illustration, and Hiroyuki posted a video demonstrating the 3D functions. Both creators use the app with an Apple Pencil.
