Namco Offers Cold Stone Ice Cream Version of Doraemon's Favorite Food

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Treasure Island), the Doraemon franchise's 38th film, opened in Japan on March 3. To mark the theatrical debut, Cold Stone Creamery and Namco game centers throughout Japan will begin offering ice cream snacks inspired by Doraemon's favorite food on March 10.

In the original Doraemon manga and anime, the title character's favorite food is dorayaki, a traditional Japanese sweet treat made of pancake-like castella cake discs filled with azuki red bean paste. Viz Media partnered with JFC International, Inc. and Beard Papa's to release special Doraemon varieties of dorayaki in 2015.

Cold Stone Creamery's "Dorasando" variation on the classic includes either sweet cream or cherry blossom and mochi ice cream topped with cut strawberries. The bean paste inside the sandwiches is a combination of mashed and whole beans. Namco game centers will offer Dorasando in crane game machines. So, sampling the film-inspired dessert may require some skill and hand-eye coordination.

People who are not fond of bean paste can still try food inspired by the latest Doraemon anime. The film's official website revealed on Friday that Sarah and Shizuka's French toast recipe from the anime is now available online. The recipe is available through Cookpad, and the website's Instagram is streaming a video narrated by Shizuka to show hungry anime fans how to recreate the dish.

Cold Stone Creamery has previously collaborated with anime such as Naruto and Yuri!!! on Ice.
