50 Years of Go Nagai Heads to Osaka, Tokyo in September

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Legendary manga creator Gō Nagai has half a century of works under his belt. The anime industry is paying recognition this year by adapting some of his most acclaimed works, like DEVILMAN crybaby and Cutie Honey Universe. Still, one or two anime isn't enough to really grasp the breadth of Nagai's contributions to manga. For that, fans should head to the upcoming Gō Nagai Exhibition in Osaka and Tokyo.

The Osaka Culturarium at Tempozan will host the Go Nagai Exhibition starting on September 8-24. The exhibit will contain over 600 manga manuscripts and color illustrations spanning Nagai's 50 year career. One area will recreate the world view of Mazinger Z and Devilman while featuring "secret materials," too.

Nagai himself will visit the exhibit on opening day to sign autographs. Original goods will go on sale, including Soul of Chogokin Mazinger Z figures in an alternate color scheme.

The Gō Nagai Exhibition will take place in Tokyo in September at The Ueno Royal Museum. More details will be announced in the future.

Gō Nagai's original Devilman manga was re-released in a hardback edition by Seven Seas Entertainment in March. Seven Seas will also release Nagai's Cutie Honey manga in a hardback edition in July. The Mazinger Z: Infinity film based on his giant robot manga premiered last year followed by Netflix and Masaaki Yuasa's DEVILMAN crybaby, and the currently airing Cutie Honey Universe.
