Voice Actress Nao Tōyama (Yui Yuigahama from My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, Karen Kujō from Kinmoza! Kiniro + Mosaic) was honored with the Golden Achievement Award on May 15 for her charity efforts to help areas recovering from the Great East Japan Earthquake. The award was given by the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Tōyama's birthday is March 11, the same day as the Great East Japan Earthquake. Last year, she used her birthday as an opportunity to raise awareness for humanitarian aid by selling rainbow wristbands. All profits generated from the sales were donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Tōyama wrote on her blog, "When I first made the charity wristbands last year, I was moved that I could do such a big thing if I combined everyone's power. I was very happy!”
The voice actress is continuing her charity efforts this year with the sale of charity bags.
Tōyama's social media accounts were in the news earlier this week after staff decided to crackdown on abuse by Twitter users. One obsessed fan was sending up to 4,000 tweet replies to Tōyama in a single day.
