Otaku Awards 2002

Kaiyo-do, Spirited Away and Tezuka World are awarded this years dubious honors.

The "winners" of the 2002 Otaku Awards have been announced. The Otaku Awards are an annual recognition of achievements of the worst kinds.

Grand Prize:

Japanese Figure Maker Kaiyo-do, famous among Otaku for Godzilla, warships, Astro, Beldandy, Rei Ayanami and other Anime figures, won the grand prize for two autobiographical books written by the company's president this year.

Red Bear Prize:

Studio Ghibli's Japanese DVD release of Spirited Away, now infamous for its questionable Red Tint was "honored."

Consolation Prize:

Tezuka World Theme Park, Construction of the theme Park, originally announced in 1998, was cancelled this year for financial reasons.
