Japanese Box Office, February 8-9 (Updated)

20th Century Boys II stays at #1; Heaven's Door debuts at #10

The second film in Yukihiko Tsutsumi's three-part adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys manga stayed at #1 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the February 7-8 weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, 20th Century Boys Part II: Saigo no Kibō earned the equivalent of US$3,908,428 on 374 screens in its second weekend for a gross-to-date of US$14,972,895.

Takahisa Zeze's Kansen Rettō film dropped from #4 to #7 in its fourth weekend. This live-action film adaptation of Masasumi Kakizaki's horror manga added US$1,201,600 to its total of US$16,001,366 on 324 screens. Shinshun Super Sentai-sai: Engine Sentai Go-onger vs. Gekiranger, Toei's latest live-action special-effects film, fell from #7 off the chart after two weeks.

Heaven's Door, the live-action directorial debut of Michael Arias (Tekkonkinkreet), opened at #10 with US$450,843 on 142 screens.
