Live-Action Tokyo Ghoul, Flip Flappers Released Monday

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Also, separate Blu-ray and DVD editions of Gate, DVD Pokémon: Black and White film collection

On Monday July 9, Anime Limited is releasing the live-action feature film version of Tokyo Ghoul on Blu-ray and DVD. Kentarō Hagiwara ("Super Star" short) directed the film, and the production shot principal photography from last July to September. Masanori Morikawa, a Christian Dada designer and a fan of the original manga, designed the masks and costumes of the ghouls in the film. Don Davis (The Matrix film trilogy) composed the film's music, and Nicholas Becker (Arrival, Zero Gravity, Batman Begins) was in charge of sound special effects. RADWIMPS band songwriter and guitarist Yōjirō Noda performed the theme song "Banka," under the name illion.

MVM is releasing a Collectors Blu-ray edition of the series Flip Flappers. Previously, it was listed as a combi Blu-ray/DVD edition although MVM later confirmed that this was not the case, and that this edition is Blu-ray only. MVM's Anime-on-line website is listing a standard DVD edition on August 13 and a standard Blu-ray edition on September 3.

In the story, Cocona is a model honor student, cautious and slow to embrace new opportunities. This makes life complicated when a mysterious girl named Papika suddenly appears, fearlessly searching for a wish-granting crystal called the “Shard of Mimi.” When fates collide and they're given the ability to transform into powerful fairy-like beings, where will the dangerous journey into “Pure Illusion” take them?

Pure Illusionist is credited with the original work for the series. Kiyotaka Oshiyama (animation director for Space Dandy, Dennō Coil, Xam'd: Lost Memories) directed the anime at Studio 3Hz (Celestial Method, Dimension W). Takashi Kojima (Your Lie in April, Kokoro Connect animation director) designed the characters and served as chief animation director, and tanu (original character design for Tari Tari, The Rolling Girls) was the conceptual artist.

MVM is also releasing separate Blu-ray and DVD editions of the 24-part series GATE, about Japanese soldiers making their way through a fantasy world. MVM previously released a combi Collectors Edition of the series in April.

Manga is releasing a four-film set on DVD under the title Pokémon: Black and White. It contains the following films: Pokémon the Movie: White - Victini and Zekrom, Pokémon the Movie: Black - Victini and Reshiram, Pokémon the Movie: Kyurem VS. The Sword of Justice and Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened.
