So is there still no word on if Crunchyroll will be streaming this or will it be going to the traditional TV Americanized dub route?

As far as I can tell, there's still no word on either. The series hasn't even premiered in Japan yet, so it's too early for any announcements of a US release. Considering that Saban Brands has re-acquired the franchise, I doubt that they will allow Crunchyroll to stream the uncut Japanese version of Appli Monsters. Despite Crunchyroll streaming the uncut Japanese version of Fusion (aka Xros Wars), they had to negotiate with Toei to get that since at the time, Saban Brands didn't own the US rights to the franchise.

Saban Brands doesn't seem to be involved with Digimon anymore. The last batch of Xros Wars was never dubbed into English and the franchise itself has been removed from their website. In fact, it appears Toei is handling Digimon Adventure tri. by themselves.

I can't exactly blame Saban for not dubbing the third part of Xros Wars. It was pretty terrible.

I'm amazed that Tri is being done by Toei though. I unconsciously assumed it was Saban without really looking.

And it's not even first time Toei did this. They already did this with Data Squad. Many people actually think Disney dubbed Data Squad, but if you read ending credits carefully, you'll find out it's all Toei work and the only participation Disney had was to put Jetix logo at the end of the credits Wink
With that said, it wouldn't surprise me if Toei went the same route with Universe as well. Or they may go even cheaper way and actually license it to CrunchyMation and wait until they'll dub it Laughing I doubt that will happen, but you never know these days. Just a few days ago, I would've said Funimation and Crunchyroll are bloody enemies and see what we have now.

Looked like Yu-Gi-Oh ZEXAL combined with Digimon.
