I was pretty excited when this was announced, even though I've never read the manga, but now I no longer want to watch this show after seeing this promo. That car chase scene was one of the worst cases of CG animation I've seen in an anime. What kind of person thinks seeing an old man hit and forcibly grab a little kid, who's been though a lot of trauma, many times is funny? It's okay if people end up liking this show, but this definitely isn't for me.

This reminds me of Your Lie in April so far in terms of comedic sociopathy.

The Car CGI is rough I can agree with that, but the "punch" was mostly just an exaggerated way of showing discipline because they did something bad and he's a grouchy old guy.
It's one of those things where I don't think he'd ACTUALLY hurt the girls and it's done in a way that isn't meant to be taken seriously. If it had a serious tone and he was actually shown to be physically hurting and abusing the girls then I'd have a problem, but in this context and tone through the dramatization of animation I don't have a problem here, nor do I personally see the problem. But hey that's just me.

Compared to the western cartoons I've watched, anime and manga have a lot more realism to me and are more down-to-earth, so unless the character does something intentionally awful to deserve it, this type of humor in anime and manga just really bothers me and ends up making me feel bad for the character on the receiving end of abuse from another character. This is why I can never watch shows like Love Hina and Zero no Tsukaima. I wouldn't mind too much if it was played for drama and if the perpetrator, in this case the old man, was portrayed in the wrong for doing it, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I hope you understand my reasoning.

I mean you're obviously completely entitled to your view points and way of thinking, but I'll be honest with you by saying that I personally don't understand your reasoning.
I think in a live action version if he hit her he would have just done a soft "boop", just to show he was frustrated without actually hurting her. Here it's done vastly exaggerated for dramatic effect, which to my eyes isn't supposed to be taken seriously or be realistic.
My view point is a lot of the time anime and manga often show visuals that are meant to be metaphorical, over dramatic, and vastly exaggerated often for the sake of conveying something like an emotion. Which I personally do like. In this case it was for the sake of showing that the old man was frustrated. Which I don't think was actually abusive.
In some cases and series I might agree with you, but in this case I think you're taking it way to seriously and overthinking it, all my personal opinion and it's simply my take on the situation.

CGI car is rough to look at but I can look past that this still looks like something I'll watch if it gets picked up

Yeah, I realize I'm probably overreacting a little. But I guess I just don't like seeing little kids get hit by teens or adults in general unless it's played for drama. I wouldn't mind as much if the child character was an enormous brat or really annoying, but Sana here just seems to be a little girl who's been through a lot hardships and doesn't know how to act in certain situations due to being locked up and experimented upon for so long. You can't just make a character as sympathetic as possible and then have them be at the butt of these kinds of jokes and expect people to laugh. I have a tendency to sympathize a lot with anime or manga characters. I can find this type of comedy funny in anime like Clannad, No Game No Life, and Angel Beats. What also makes or breaks these types of gags for me are the characters' reactions. In the Grimoire of Zero light novel, whenever the Mercenary bops Zero on the head, she always reacts with slight annoyance. Here, when Sana gets hit or her head forcibly grabbed by Zouroku, she looks really upset and in pain from it, and looks like she's about to cry when it happens. Her reactions are a little too realistic and aren't exaggerated enough for me to find it funny. I guess I was expecting something similar to Usagi Drop but with fantasy elements.

Hey this looks pretty decent... then that car. As has been noted, that CGI car scene looks like a cutscene from a low budget PS1 game. I would prefer even panning still shots to that "animation." It's just atrocious. I mean they even used the CG for the interior of the car. Why, other than to make it as ugly as possible.
