When you said "just because" it kept linking to the recent anime lol. Sadly, only Fate was brought to theaters near me so I've only managed to watch that one film. But it was fantastic. Probably gonna skip on Mary. Every review I've read says it's really generic and at this point in my life I'm more for good stories than visuals. Looking forward to seeing the others when blu-rays come out.

Pretty lucky that almost all of them have appeared where I am, though we always seem to have to wait a bit longer than everyone else. I'll be watching Fate next weekend.

I'll be seeing Mary and the Witch's Flower in a little less than 2 weeks, and will definitely catch the Yuasa films in February if they show anywhere near me. Heaven's Feel I was truly a masterpiece for me though. One of the better anime movies I've seen in a very long time. I just wish it was more stand-alone so I could show it to more people!

I did "get" Walk on Girl and so far it's the best anime movie I've seen in 2017, and I've seen 10 of them so far
I am a SAO fan and didn't think too much of Ordinal Scale. It was entertaining enough to be worth my time but I thought the villian was pretty weak. |

Aruke yo Otome is definitely my favorite 2017 film. I was cracking up throughout, especially with the context from Yoji-han popping into play. It's clever and creative as it is visually symbolic, like a dream. I recommend Yoji-han first, not just because of the references, but how the lives of the characters tie into the message.

Out of those, I'd go with Zero, as an improvement, both visually and otherwise, on a series that I was already fond of. I have no complaints about Heaven's Feel's production - quite the opposite - but I felt it was too inside jokey to put it over Zero, even as someone who has seen all the Fate TV anime available in the US. While I liked the movie well enough, I wouldn't put Ordinal Scale very highly among the anime films I saw last year (7th or 8th out of 10). I'm going to see Mary and the Witch's Flower later this month and I'll check out Night is Short, Walk On Girl when it becomes available.

I definitely get this complaint, but I think, at least for me, I wouldn't have even noticed that it was "inside jokey" if I wasn't in a theater with a bunch of obnoxious Fate fans who all had apparently read the VN and needed to giggle at every other scene.... The experience mostly just made me realize that there are some anime I don't really want or care to see in theaters, Kizu was a little that way, and Fate definitely is if HF is any indication. Not that I'll actually skip seeing the rest of HF in theaters when it comes out, but I'll have to remind myself to separate the actual film from my experience seeing it, as much as possible. Luckily I was able to do that with HF I, because I ended up loving the hell out of it, even though my theater going experience was not so good. |

It certainly wouldn't have stuck out as much if I hadn't seen it in theaters, but there were at least some scenes which seemed to be made with an eye to such a reaction from fans of the VN. Overall I wouldn't say my experience was bad, so much as occasionally awkward, more than made up for by the caliber of the production, though that put it below other movies that were well produced and did not generate such concerns. |

People keep on saying that one has to be familiar with all the visual novels before seeing the Heaven's Feel movie--I would say just simply see the Unlimited Blade Works series and you're good enough to go, since this movie clearly cuts to the new material under the assumption of having seen UFOtable's prior Fate adaptation. |

Can't wait to see Mary and the Witch's Flower in a couple of weeks.
Personally I rated NGNL0 above SAO:OS. It might have been because I binged watched NGNL before seeing it, and I missed seeing SAO:OS in the cinema, but I wasn't quite sold on OS though I can't wait to see both of the new series. Fate at the top... Definitely. I am actually looking forward to the next two films and hope Madman bring it to cinemas here in AU again, but given what they have been doing lately that's a given |

The review describes the No Game No Life movie as being “radically different from the original.” To those who have seen it, is it different enough that someone like me, who found the original NGNL to be irredeemable chunibyo/pedo bait, might enjoy the movie?

Short answer: No. Long answer: NOOOOOOO! Really long answer: Coming from someone who expected it to be different based on what the fans who saw it before me were saying, no, it's not that different in regards to literally anything that people found objectionable about the TV series, other than the fact that there is not a character who gets mocked and demeaned in the same way as Stephanie from the original series, so that was a nice change of pace. Everything else though, the loli fanservice(our two MCs, the predecessors of Blank, meet with the loli character literally asking to pleasure him sexually), chuunibyo stuff, whatever else, is all there. To put it in a more positive way, it is everything that people loved about the original series, plus a more emotionally engaging and self-serious story. I actually liked it a lot. But no, it's not for people who didn't like the series because of the Otaku-baity content. |
