I bought this because I heard it talked about on that ANNCast with Seven Seas. I was not disappointed. Very much one of the cutest manga I have read.
Though, I would like on friend to read it because I think she would think it is cute but she can't get passed the giant spider part. LOL |

Grammatically, I'll admit to being a bit old-school. The plural pronouns in reference to Asa struck me as confusing and distracting, also leading me to wonder if there was some reveal by the end where we learn that Asa is actually some type of colony creature.

I admit to being grossed out by real spiders, but fictional spiders I don't mind. I bet this sounds like a cute series! I should probably rent it at my local library some time.

It's actually dialect: english written forms differ notably between dialects, and one of the differences is that american dialects are more hostile to singular-they than non-american. I speak australian english, and it's for me at least pretty grating the way Land of the Lustrous almost-ostentatiously avoids the simple "they" in favour of "that gem". But I manage to cope, somehow, because I'm an adult and I understand that others express themselves in ways I wouldn't. |

Oh, I can cope, but my 50+ year-old brain still finds it distracting. The rules for american English were more strict when I was in school. Also, it is the article itself I was commenting on, not the manga, wondering if the usage was leading to a specific pay-off. |

^ I had to retrain myself to be comfortable with "they" as a singular (American English as well here), and teaching has definitely helped me with that. In any event, I used "they" in the review because that was what the manga used for Asa.

Yeah, I get that. A giant, mutant spider seems an odd choice for that creative decision. However, I can live with it.

As an owner of a 'big, scary spider' (I have a beautiful 18 year old rescue Chilean Rose Tarantula <3 ), I will have to check this out! Thanks for the review and letting me know about it!

Springe break at the University. This was the clip I needed for Monday morning. Oh gawd its' so cute. Okay, I'll admit I have a love hate relationship with spiders. I like observing them, I'll even handle those that require supervision. But the ones that cause problems I steer clear. But in my youth I became soft for jumpers. I can see why Shirow and I have something in common. Or should I say Shirow's fujikomas and every other technical construct and insects have something in common. This title is truly bizarre. It's right up there with 'My life as a slime'. But man this title is "A's" across the board. I'll have to check this little gem out. |

Thank you very much! She's such a great little pet and has been very fascinating to observe in the 15 years I've had her. And yeah, when I first found out about a females lifespan, I was pretty surprised myself! Most female tarantula species live 20+ years...males, maybe 4-5 tops.
