The true villains of the western anime industry have returned. A company nobody wants around anymore snatching up what shouldn’t be theirs, depriving fans of great works, incentivizing piracy, all because Tatsunoko had to deal with the devil again.

Thanks HG and Tatsunoko. I hate you both.

Macross is one of my favorite anime and I'm so disappointed by this. I'm not even sure how Harmony Gold can still exist as a legit company after that money laundering scheme they were involved in. Fans have been begging to support Macross for decades and this is how they treat the fandom when we were so close to freeing the franchise.

I really question at this point how Harmony Gold has managed to stay in business up until this point. The ones that grew up on Robotech that would buy the merchandise have long moved on. Macross fans would support the show, if it was legally available again, as well as 7, Fronter, and Zero.

Is there a reason for this outside of pure spite and hatred?

Screw Shadow Chronicles, Screw Love Live Alive, I just wanted a proper dub of Macross Delta on Netflix.

IIRC Harmony Gold survived thanks to Real Estate. Anyway, this is legit the worst "Anime" news I've seen in the last 5 years or so. They do nothing but exploit this franchise and laugh at it's fanbase while trying to push everyone to their precious "Robotech" fanfic.

They're just to continue to leech off this until the dead cow is milked dry. As for the live-action movie: never gonna happen. It will NEVER see the light of day no matter how much Agram claims it will. Seriously, what does Tatsunoko get out of this? HG does NOTHING with the franchise save for cheap licensing. Tatsunoko cannot possibly make enough money to justify this.

Anyone who has Macross DVD sets from AnimEigo, don't let go of them.
Shame on you HG for ruining Macross yet again.

Now you know why fans have to resort to other means to get Macross.

I'm a very sad panda right now.

I think they're primarily a real estate company with a rather dubious history, and that's where they get most of their income now. I have no idea why the heck they still are persisting with Robotech and why they won't just release Macross themselves since they can, other than it possibly being just spite. Which is sad if true.

During the panel's question-and-answer session, Tommy Yune, Harmony Gold's President of Animation, emphasized that the renewed agreements cover the first Macross series and not the followup projects in the Macross franchise, such as Macross Frontier and Macross Delta. He added that the status of the rights for those later Macross projects is "a separate question that has yet to be resolved."

That's progress. Baby steps of progress, but progress.

Dubious is putting it lightly. Agram, the chairman, was involved in a money laundering scheme with Berlusconi, the former PM of Italy (seriously) and the only reason Agram didn't serve direction incarceration was because of his advanced age.

That’s been the same thing since 7 was out. Harmony Gold wants a cut and Studio Nue has choice four letter words for them. We’ll never see Frontier, Delta, or any sequel as long as this is still a thing.

I was waiting for the day Harmony Gold would FINALLY lose the license to Macross so I could finally start watching and/or collecting classic Macross legally from another distributor who actually cares about the franchise. Lo and behold they rise from the dead to snatch those hopes away.

Apparently the agreement will last for another 35 years. In other words most people that cared about Macross will be old men/women by the time this next license is up. In other words:

F*** YOU HARMONY GOLD. You don't deserve this license and I hope you go bankrupt.

The worst part of this whole mess is that because HG has stuff like the word Macross and the UN Spacey logo trademarked so even if someone wanted to bring say stuff like Frontier, Delta and 7 over, they couldn't without a name change.

Say what you want about the recent Voltron shows, at least WEP tried to get new people into Voltron. What has HG done? Outside of a really cruddy recap film (that wasn't even good as recaps go), the last brand new thing they did with Robotech, outside of the failed kickstarter project, was The Shadow Chronicles. TSC was 13 years ago. And it was supposed to be the start of a trilogy of films (hence the cliffhanger ending.)

Let that sink in.

Welp time to hoist my pirate flag and sail the open seas of space.

HG is a piece of garbage why can't they just do us a favor and go away forever? We were THIS close to having the Macross franchise in the US now I'm mad. Evil or Very Mad
