I remembered some rumors said this was supposed to be 2-cours, split season perhaps?

Are we sure ? Maybe they didn't list all the volumes yet? Other fairly reliable sources are saying 26 episodes with 2-cour non-split
edit: I should clarify that I believe this is 100% accurate. In the last 20 years I've NEVER seen an official site NOT list every volume by the time the show aired (With the exception of long-running shows like Black Clover and One Piece, for obvious reasons). It seems to me that it's likely 2-cours were planned and it was cut and the people on twitter stating 24-26 episodes maybe had heard that info or something and rolled with it as decided fact.

Most likely. Today's episode barely got part way through the first chapter of the game, so maybe 1 cour for Chaps 1-5, then 2nd cour for 6-10?

Today's episode was mostly original content, so it's hard to really pinpoint how quickly they'll get through content that is canon to the game. Especially since it seems like they intend to kind of rewrite the game's plot events in a seemingly more coherent format for the anime, as far as episodes one and two go.

I'm noticed that split 2 cours are becoming more common than a few years ago. I'm guess that in this new decade, 24-26 episodes will become rarity.

This is true, but I could still see them just assembling the new group of girls and having them interact with the Holy Quintet and learn about Uwasa in the first cour and then really getting into the Wings of Magius/ Walpurgisnacht stuff in the second.

I wouldn't think too much about it, seeing how the anime is just an ad for the game.
I also doubt they're gonna make another cour - 13 episodes are more than enough for an advertisement.

The teen boy audience, that is Fate's target demographic is a bit different, since anime industry lives for them (and female otaku), they thought they're probably going to do fine enough.

Same thing with phantasy star online and granblue? I'm sure I could find a couple other examples if I actually looked.

Actually, yes, kinda the same thing with them.
But they might have judged their games are strong enough for the investment of an ad series to turn profit, which is probably not true for MagiReco.
Anyways, you don't have to expect big things, or an actual conclusion from what is just an ad and nothing more.

Really doubt that the teen boy audience is the target demographic of Fate when the majority of FGO players are in their 20s or 30s.

Considering the amount of buzz that surrounds another Madoka-related anime, even if it's a spin-off, they must be quite aware that fans have high expectations. Madoka made the rounds when it aired because of its quality. They put Gekidan InuCurry in charge of the series and are presenting it pretty carefully in episodes 1 and 2 at least, so I highly doubt they'd just cut it off as an ad. Besides, the story mode (arc 1) is complete and it seems reasonable with the timing that the point of having an anime now is to complete that arc. How long it takes them to do that will depend on their pacing and what other content they decide to add in.

Pretty sure they are. Saw the first 2 eps at Anime NYC and then started playing the game a few days later, and there's been a decent amount of changes made to to the story. It still generally follows the game but the changes definitely helped with adapting it into a TV series. Plus the show is supposed to have anime original characters introduced so it might diverge even more from there.
