mods: are you even allowed to mention Watsuki in these topics anymore? I feel like anything about revenue going to Watsuki has been removed for a while now.
But the fact this franchise is getting movies and novels and being more popular than ever makes it seem like Watsuki's crimes have faded from memory |

Not a mod, but:
The Watsuki conversation has become the "Shonen Jump Weekly" (not calling them that, just using the term to get the point across) equivalent of incels reacting to "censorship." Unlike the censorship issue, this is the same thing over and over, so there's a greater feeling of beating the mushy paste of the dead horse and I'd imagine the mods are tired of that coming up in every single Kenshin article. Nobody "forgot." Japanese law just treats child porn the way the U.S. treats weed (as long as you're not black) and a bunch of Western randoms in an echo chamber aren't changing that any time soon. Watsuki "got off" because he went through the legal process (regardless of your feelings on it) and they dealt with him as appropriately as they saw fit. On top of that, unlike, for example, the Act-Age writer, he wasn't touching actual kids. So it's easier to give him his job back. TL;DR Watsuki's gonna keep making his money, and the mods here are probably tired of people complaining about it every single time. |

Dude's judgement's been passed, whether you agree with it or not, it's time to shrug and move on. The case isn't directly relevant to the IP itself at this point so there's no need to bring it up in every article. It's not like we can truly forget about it anyway so why have reminders? |

I think it's relevant in that if it didn't occur I think Viz would likely have localized this. As it is I don't think it's going to be available in English which is kind of a bummer.

The new Kenshin manga he's doing is really good and I look forward to this novel as well.
I'd really like to see Viz pick this up. |

I did not see this coming. I mean, manga, sure, but novel? Nope. This new novel reminds me of spoiler[Bleach]'s novel with pretty much the same setting.

This is a pretty well-put response. It gets annoying when I come here on Rurouni Kenshin news, and the only thing I always read is people bitching and moaning about how Watsuki shouldn't deserve any more money from his own property, as if he and Harvey Weinstein were somehow in the same league. |

Granted that Watsuki's case shouldn't be brought in every article about RK, but regardless of how Japanese laws work, stop pretending that what he did was not the big deal and start comparing if what he did is less worse than what whichever other guy did, that's just disgusting.

Yeah, I hate how people are stuck on that time he was found with just a little bit of child pornography and keep acting like they're disgusted with him for owning child pornography.
Those people really need to grow up and be like me. I'm enlightened enough to read this guy's comic book and not even care about him having child pornography. |

Being in possession of child porn isn't any less problematic than sexual assault. Though as mentioned he got caught, got charged, got sentenced. I'm not pretending anything, I'm saying that for all the condemnation Watsuki is going through again, his IP and its adaptations are still selling pretty well and that people will make money off it whether we like it or not, that he got whatever punishment the justice system thought he deserved, and that beating this dead horse never goes anywhere, so I'm gonna stop here talking about the subject, because apparently you and the other guy answering to my comment love to try to read between lines for thing that aren't there. Also, is even english your first language??? it took me a while trying to make heads or tails of your comment. |
