It took a while for the adaptation to get good but in hindsight, I feel like that's fair since the game takes a while to get good. I like Shiki but Week 1 is the weakest arc (IMO) whether it's in the game or anime. Both were bogged down by exposition, Neku is at his most dislikable point in his character arc, and the GM of WK 1 is the most forgettable antagonist in the show. Even his boss fight wasn't memorable in the game either. Nor did he have any interesting chemistry or dialogue with Shiki (I felt that each GM was a bit of a foil to Neku's partner for that respective week, with Neku's foil being spoiler[Kitaniji & Joshua]).
Overall, I think this has been a competent, even at times good, adaptation and an entertaining show on its own. |
