Wow, hope he remains healthy. Judging by that comment it sounds like he doesn't plan to make another Gundam and instead a more original anime once he finishes Reco.

I always loved the dedication Tomino has in hating anime. When Eva was big, Anno told Tomino he was his inspiration. Then Tomino told him that he did not create the Otaku subculture. Tomino going into anime purely because live action Japanese movies were low budget radiates that David Lynch energy.

I may ran hot and cold on Tominio but I hope for his final work, he can put out something on the level of a Turn A Gundam one last time to go out with.

I hope he can work on one more anime before retirement, I don't want G-Reco to be the last anime he worked on before retirement.

A twisted part of me wishes he could go back to the days of his old "Kill Em All" nickname for whatever his final title turns out to be.

Though not nearly as famous, I think Gen "the butcher" Urobuchi can earn that title today.

I have to give Tomino my respects, perhaps I don't agree with some of his opinions but it's admirable that he keeps on working on new projects.
When he mentioned about directing a live-action Gundam it remind me about hearing that he envisioned Gundam as a live-action project but the special effects required weren't possible at that time, especially in Japan at the time so an anime series made more sense.

Highly reccomend reading the Tomino gundam trilogy. Its really feels like what he wanted to do if he did not have to make a kids robot anime. Very high tech and philosophical for the time. Has some weird stuff, and goes off in a different direction(the ending of the original series is the ending of the first novel, drastically changing fates), but is a great sci fi novel.

Or even Mohiro Kitoh with Narutaru and Bokurano.

I guess no one told Tomino that Clint Eastwood still directs movies and he's 91. So 79 is nothing as far as directing movies go at this point.
