this sounds so worrying, to be honest. I mean the free for all kind of job application is usually a lure to exploit people.

That's a good possibility, there's also a possibility that they might be short staffed though. Especially in this day and age, when studios are spread thin. An example being how Studio Pierrot had to look for fans to anime that last couple big fights in Black Clover
