Shame for the novel, I liked the manga well enough.

I dunno, I feel like I didn't really disagree with anything in the review, but I also felt like it was unfairly down on the book. I read it and enjoyed it a lot myself. I think it would be a shame to skip the novel due to the pessimism in this review.

Full disclosure: I am a J-Novel Club employee.

I felt the same way about this review - I recognise all the criticism, as it’s definitely flawed, but I also really enjoyed the book. It’s flawed, but for me at least it was just a really relaxing read. I’m hoping Dahlia learns to be more independent in the future, but at the very least she’s now got a team of people looking out for her, and I’m really enjoying the friends-to-lovers thing that appears to be going on with Volf.

I think this is one of those series that either clicks for you or doesn’t. I’d probably give it a B+ if I were rating it, since it’s not good enough quality to be an A, but it’s just really enjoyable. I mean, I liked it enough to spend a J-Novel credit on it after reading the pre-pubs, which I only do for series I want to collect.

I really enjoyed it a lot as well. It was one of those where I was looking through the new stuff announced, tried the first few parts, and got completely sucked in. It's completely charming. It's very laid back, and all the characters are lovely except Tobias (of course), and I love how the story comes back to let the reader know the consequences of Tobias' actions.

I also really loved how Volf's life changed because of what Dahlia did for him, and the harassment men can experience for their looks being explored, something that happens as much as women but gets glossed over. I also love, love the inventions in the story and how Dahlia worked her original world's ideas into them, and how they don't always work out.

I really loved Dahlia reclaiming herself, and I did love the food descriptions. I am also a sucker for the friends-to-lovers trope and fully expect it to head that way.

Speaking of food, I'm disappointed that ANN hasn't reviewed the J-Novel translations of the Slayers novels. They've done an outstanding job with them.
