I discovered BELLE from Millennium Parade's Official Youtube page. I thought of it as a music video until I noticed that everything doesn't seem to make sense, as it seemed to be missing scenes. It was until I researched that it is actually an anime movie.
I thought of it as an influence from the famous Beauty and the Beast, and in all honesty, I thought it was a little bit of a rip-off at first but then I backtracked and thought of the music video. This story is more contemporary and its issues are what most gamers also face; what is real and not, the social anxiety that people experience when in the real world, and you could say also being real. However upon reading this article, it made me realize that it is more than that. It is a quest on defining what is beautiful in our current times, especially when internet is involved. It is not a rip-off of Beauty and the Beast at all. It makes me think now that Mamoru Hosada has somehow elevated old Beauty and the Beast movie by also seeking the answer to the questions: How can you find true beauty within the digital platform? What is true beauty in this case anyways? How can you differentiate the true beauty from the artificial beauty? How does technology influence the main society's definition of beauty? In the end, I can't wait to watch this movie. It is indeed something to look forward to. Thank you ANN for covering this.
