How did Crunchyroll go from being a piracy site hosting illegal uploads to consuming the largest English language anime distributor?

They add only dub version for Dragon Ball Z but not sub version? And all of OG Dragon Ball, Z and GT are region locked in many countries (including in Europe) despite that it still a very popular anime worldwide. Go figure Crunchyroll.

It's a shame only the awful inaccurate English dubbed version of DBZ is on Crunchyroll for now. But I guess it has its fans. I just hope the Japanese version is put up eventually, and perhaps DBZ Kai, in addition. Ideally, 4:3 aspect ratio.

Man, this is sure going to take some getting used to.

Small thing but I wonder when the end credit change will take effect for One Piece considering that dub gets streamed first before video and they're already made for that.

I was going to say that they should have the digital copy situation sorted out by June then, but none of the listings show anything about digital on the artwork or listings. I wonder if that's just because it's preliminary or if they're planning on dropping the digital copies...

Well when they said they'd be switching over to Crunchyroll branding "soon" I didn't realize they meant within the next 3 months. Surprised it's happening so soon after their weird vague answer in the Q and A

I don't get why DBZ is dub only but I hope they eventually add the sub and I also second that I hope Kai would be added too but even on Funimation Toei seemingly never allowed Kai to stream for whatever reason. I also hope Crunchyroll adds the original Dragon Ball and DBZ movies as Funimation had a few of those streaming too but so far Crunchyroll only has the show.

These were only previously available on Funimation.
It should be noted while DBZ and GT have only been available on Funimation, OG Dragon Ball has been available on Hulu before and is in fact still streaming on Hulu both dubbed and subbed and as far as I know it's all of the OG DB.

So it appears that the final home video releases with a Funimation logo will be May's slate of Kemono Jihen, Super Cub, and Kageki Shojo!! (according to @LandOfObscusion), and possibly the LE set of Wonder Egg Priority (according to @KeikakuKat).

Cool, I'm done with their physical releases too.

The only company I have more disdain for than Crunchyroll is Sony so it's pretty convenient.

No kidding. I would have guessed that things that were licensed only by Funimation would still have that label, and it would steadily decrease until they worked through those. A hard cutoff isn't what I would have guessed, but I suppose it was decided that they might as well get it over with.

Man, I can't believe that Funimation as a brand is being phased out two years before their 30th. anniversary.

This is kinda depressing. Funimation is a brand with almost 30 years of memories. I hope they regret selling out
