Looks amazing, as expected. Maruyama managed to gather a heavy team for this one.
That being said, the compositing continues to be overdone in a lot of scenes, which could bring down the animation at times. It's similar to what happened with the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen. I don't think Mitsuhiro Sato was the right call for DOP considering his portfolio is all over the place. |

The tezuka estate has been radically eroding my goodwill with Osamu Tezuka adaptions...
That said it will probably be fun to doublebill this with the Phoenix reboot which is supposed to be released in 2023. |

This almost looks like a movie. The studio was essentially founded to make Pluto and Masao clearly called in every favorite as Madhouse did for OPM S1 but still. How does it look this good?
8 volumes tend to make exactly 24 eps if done right so Netflix confirming a similar runtime with extra length eps instead makes sense. 1 hour per volume. |

I assume the only thing left on Maruyama's list of stuff to do is Satoshi Kon's last movie.
I saw the wiki entry and I don't know if stuff has moved since then, but it'd be cool if it could somehow happen with the time he has left. |

Very excited for this! Pluto is quite possibly my favourite Urasawa manga, though I love pretty much all of the major ones.

You should know that Netflix rarely ever "produces" anime. Most of their "Original" anime are just a label to show they paid fat money to get exclusivity rights, not that they had any major hand on production or even pre-production of a series. This one has been on the works for 7-ish years. |

In August 2018 Masao Maruyama revealed that the movie will not be completed or released in the foreseeable future, as there were no Japanese animation directors that could match Kon's level of ability, though he did not rule out the possibility of the project being revived in the future under a talented foreign director. Surely as the fan of Kon's works I and all people would like to see Dreaming Machine completely done. As for Pluto, I hope that they adapt the work carefully. I like the trailer, it looks stylish and cool for me. |

Doesn't Netflix have partnerships with about 10 of the bigger anime production studios? Some anime are just streaming rights paid for with no involvement from Netflix behind the scenes but more than a few are because Netflix commissioned the anime to be made for them. |
