Looks too basic, honestly.

So tired of every damn decent budget Jump anime game being another Naruto style fighting game. Can someone please copy a linear action game at least? open world is probably too much, so...Final Fantasy? Dragon Quest clone? cmon.

I’m still here thinking a big shounen cast would be perfect for an action RPG akin to Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Arena brawler is the word you’re looking for what this game is. Yeah, beyond tired of the genre, never liked it much to begin with, and Dragonball FighterZ showed how proper fighting games are just so much better in execution. But even beyond that, Sand Land of all things is getting a seemingly significant game with fighting, exploration, stealth, vehicle combat, etc.

Demon Slayer? Jujutsu? My Hero Academia? Black Clover? Nah, let’s give a big, non-arena brawler to Sand Land, that’s what the anime fans have CLEARLY been demanding. Like, don’t get me wrong, the game looks fun and I’ll likely try it out, but it’s still frustrating.

At least Fairy Tail and now One Piece got JRPGs.

That being said… this is Jujutsu Kaisen. The series is literally all 1v1s. Lol. Maybe other game types work for other series, but for JJK… a fighting game is really the only thing that would fit.

Then I wish it were a 2D fighting game, heck even a 3D fighting game like Tekken or Soul Calibur would be fine even if I prefer 2D, but nope, another arena brawler, yaaaaaaaaaay.

To be fair arena brawlers seem like the most natural thing for battle shounen anime given it's about spectacle fighting and flashy moves. Other than that, I'd accept musou or even bullet heaven games. Holocure really opened my eyes at how much flavor and potential those games have. Although they're obviously not AA or AAA material like arena fighters and musous.

FighterZ is okay but most people don't want a competitive fighter. Everyone in both the YouTube and Twitch chat for the panel were begging for Budokai Tenkaichi 4 footage and showcase. I think most fans like these flashy arena fighters. Gameplay wise I prefer BT, but I did like the story and character interactions in FighterZ just not the gameplay as much.

So basically we’re doomed until these fans get better taste in gaming. Sorry, I wouldn’t say arena brawlers are bad, but they’re clearly janky and unbalanced compared to proper fighting games. Arc System made a new for themselves with their fighting game series long before FighterZ, so FighterZ clearly wasn’t beloved purely for the IP, it was because it was a dang good fighter. On the other hand, replace the Budokai cast with totally original characters not connected to any IP, I highly doubt it would sell much. It’s rather telling these arena brawlers are almost all based on IPs, it shows it’s the IP carrying the games and not the gameplay quality of the genre generally.

It’s like, I saw people gravitate towards FighterZ even if they hadn’t even seen/read Dragonball. On the other hand, Budokai and its like don’t seem to draw anyone but the fans of the anime IP itself. Like, you said, they’re flashy, but they ultimately lack substance.

That would be a pretty good idea tbh.

I also daydream about someone taking something like the original Dragonball and turning it into a Zelda-like adventure game.
