There's going to be a hybrid anime where it shifts more towards Western sensibilities.

.... he says, as anime marketed to the West (from Gonzo among others) has already failed and studios are shifting back towards the domestic Japanese market.

I find this news odd overall. Confused

The only way to keep anime that's extremely western oriented is to fund it. The Japanese won't keep making this stuff on their own because of those failures.

This might actually be a worse idea than the Highlander anime. Anime hyper Wouldn't an anime with western sensibilities and not animated in Japan be... a cartoon?

There's already a Mad Max anime. It's called Fist of the North Star! Laughing Actually, what was ironic was that when Buronson was @ AX, I was gonna ask him if he would like to direct MM4, since Miller wasn't interested. But now Gibson's out, too, so I didn't see it happening, until now. On a related note, I might as well plug an L.A. New Beverly screening of the entire trilogy in a couple weeks.

Eerie as in the thread of western non-anime series I suggested

Quote:

How about the Postman (having to explain it) Oh it's a post-apocalyptic Western

So it got the post-apocalyptic part....

Umm, no. That would not be an anime, it would be an American animation trying to call itself a Japanese cartoon. But if you do make one, would love to see Aunty Entity back again Very Happy

I should have been clearer as that thread was for existing properties, The Postman like Mad Max are both live-action movies. And both are post-apocalyptic movies too.

And as long as it's good I don't really care if it's anime or not.

They already make 'westerized' anime, i.e. Ben Ten, Avatar and all those other horrible Cartoon Network shows. Yuck!!

Probably should have been more clearer myself. It wasn't actually your post I was referring to. It was the article and how he is calling it anime. Doesn't really count if it's not made in Japan.

What he said.

A Mad Max movie without Mel Gibson gives me the same skeptical feeling that I have about the upcoming Terminator movie that is sans The Governator. As a MM and Terminator fan, I will go see both of them, but my hopes aren't very high.

Now, if this is more Road Warrior and less Thunderdome, I will be more excited.

Yeah...if it's not Japanese then it's not anime. It's okay though, contrary to popular belief 'western animation' is not a dirty word.

Yes. Too bad he passed away a few years ago and was replaced by a crazy person.

No problem as likely it was equallly my error as well, but still if it's good animation with a good story who really cares what it's called?

Anime just really divides when it's strictly interpreted as "Animation from Japan" as then some of the more fanatical anime fans then I won't give it a simple chance, and they might miss out on something good.

Because Mel Gibson is already too old for the long-rumored Mad Max 4! Laughing
