be #1 in this case would have been completely impossible.
K-on opened in 137 theaters, while Kaibutsu-kun was shown in 446 (3.2 times as many)
k-on was released on midnight and was completely packed all day during the weekend and grossing $4mil. was excellent.

in comparison, K-on earned ~$29700 per theater while Kaibutsu-kun earned $16000~ per theater (two weeks ago) during the respectively FIRST weekend showing.

what Im saying is, even if this is "Avatar" or "Harry Potter", it still wouldn't have been number 1 if it had opened in 3.2 times less theatres then the "#1"

Always wondered if Japan has an equivalent of Siskel & Ebert or Rotten Tomatoes......... Always wondered how Japanese review their own movies.............. Laughing
