I'm glad this is getting a dub. I really like this show because it subverts so many cliche romance anime tropes its not even funny (characters ACTUALLY TALK TO EACH OTHER and NO MISUNDERSTANDINGS!!!). It really deserves it. And hey! It comes out right on Christmas Eve! Awesome!

This announcement is made in compliance with the Brittney Karbowski Full Employment Act of 2008

(Also, article has incorrect spelling. Should be Brittney, sted Brittany)

It really is too bad that this is a Sentai release, otherwise I would've picked it up. Sentai has got a lot of great titles coming up, it's just a shame that they don't treat those titles with care Sad .

Monica Rial is certainly ubiquitous, isn't she?

Not that I'm complaining.

I've never heard a Chris Ayres dub that didn't sound extremely awkward. I'll pass, I don't want to suffer through more of it.

I thought that I was the only one. I like the guy, and I like many of his roles, but the dubs that he directs definitely have some issues.

Karbowski is in this one, but Shelley Black is not? I'm shocked. Has some calamity befallen her (or is she back @ Funimation again), because for a while there it (almost) wasn't a Sentai dub if she wasn't in it?

BTW, what was "the scoop" on the previous Chris Ayres dub, Little Busters, which featured Funimation actress Tia Ballard? Actors can cross from Sentai to Funi (and back) but I'm thinking that it might be unprecedented for a Funi actress to go to Sentai and back. How has the dub community not gotten to the bottom of this?

Well at it's root I expect that there's a one word answer for this, but it isn't appropriate for a non-political board.

Suffice it to say that at least some if not all the VA's that work for Funimation now are contractors, not full time employees, so hopping into the car and driving down to Houston from Dallas for a few days is easy.

You go where the jobs are. Expect it to happen more often now.

Dub sounds awful and the cast list looks the same as about a hundred other Sentai dubs. The show on the other hand looks like it could be right up my alley.

So have you watched the show or not? You are making judgements on the shows dub, which would indicate you have watched it. However, then you say that "it could be right up" your alley, which would indicate you haven't watched it.

These actors are private contractors, and they don't work exclusively for either Funimation or Sentai. Like most/all actors, they go where they need to for a paycheck. Many Funimation and Seraphim voice actors don't even do anime voice overs as their primary job. Many perform on stage, or do television roles. Some do other voice over work like video games and audiobooks. Others, like Hilary Haag, have full time jobs that are completely unrelated to acting. It has always been this way for actors in Texas. This is nothing new.

Most likely, Seraphim is just attempting to expand it's pool of available actors, after getting a lot of criticism for reusing the same people too often. However, their tight recording schedules probably make it more difficult to squeeze in out of town actors, like those from Dallas/Ft. Worth.

One thing I've always heard, "straight from the horse's mouth", is that anime voice actors don't make money hand-over-fist from acting in anime. I just don't see how it could be profitable for a Funimation actor to hop in a car and drive to Sentai to do just one dub and turn a profit on it. Maybe she didn't need to stay in Houston to do the dubbing, knowing Sentai's reputation for fast dubs (which I continue to fear is them playing with fire), but even the drive itself is expensive.

To quote the Vice President of the United States: "This is a big [expletive']-ing deal!" This is unprecedented as far as I know.

BTW, if that "one word answer" is the word I'm thinking of then I'm thinking that it should be a-ok because, while not a "political" site per se, this is an anime/manga site (link: certain character from the manga of Air Gear). Cool

Wow... I usually love dubs but this one does sound extremely awkward! I think I could get used to Yamato's voice, but the girls..?? They all sound kinda... dumb. Shocked They don't have that mature and mellow vibe which in retrospect I have to admit the Japanese VAs nailed. Mei's voice is especially jarring.
Oh well, its just the trailer. Chances are that for somebody watching the series for the first time this dub will grow on them.
