I like Otomo, but you should say a little more about Watterson, considering he's been out of the comic biz for almost 20 years, now. OTOH, so has Otomo... Laughing

And that's the staying power of Calvin and Hobbes for Bill Watterson to still get well-deserved recognition this many years later. I've reread my books a while ago--and that's what made me stop reading comic strips in the newspaper, because in my opinion they just aren't as good as they used to be, let alone even come close to matching Calvin and Hobbes's imaginative and creative greatness.

Seems a bit out of touch to be giving awards to Watterson for Calvin and Hobbes, after such a long time, unless this was some kind of 'life time' achievement award.

I love Calvin and Hobbes, but as GATSU said, it has been almost 20 years now.

I certainly respect Otomo, but come on... he was up against Calvin and Hobbes.

I'm guessing Watterson won't be collecting the award in person. Actually, will they even know where to mail it to?... Wink

Ehh this award is pretty one sided. Everyone knows Watterson will win it. I don't understand this contest, even though C&H are decades old now, aren't they just going to win awards every year everytime someone decides to put it in an entry?

I love Otomo, but Watterson is truly a once-per-generation genius. So I'm okay with this.

That's what he wants you to think. (Or is it?)

Well, somewhere in the vicinity. He certainly leads a hermetic life these days.
