Original franchise developer Shu Takumi is directing the game, and he emphasized that while this game is not part of the numbered Ace Attorney series, it is also not a side story.

Yes, its a prequel to the already existing games. I figure as much when I heard of this game via hardnews from ScrewAttack. I haven't played any of the ace attorney games so far (though I've been kind of wanting to for a little while now), and I would like to give this game a try. I love the vintage atmosphere the game has of late 19th century Japan and it seems like it would have an interesting story. Plus a potential lawyer who can wield a sword. That's awesome!

Also...

The video also shows the female character, Susato Mikotoba, who serves as Ryūnosuke's assistant. She is a "sweet flower that blooms in the new world."

Who wants to bet Susato and Ryūnosuke are going to end up being a couple at some point in the story (or the next game(s) if they decide to make more like with the other Ace Attorney games)?

I just started playing the Ace Attorney games and they are really fun and addicting. I would love to play this game down the road. I hope it gets localized.

Holy shit, I'm pumped.

That being said, it will be more hilarious than ever to see the localization team trying to make Meiji Era Japan to pass as America... Laughing

... And that's the one big concern I have about them possibly not bringing this game to us. Hopefully they don't get hung up on pointless crap like that and just make up that Phoenix's ancestor lived in Japan (i.e. while being of American lineage as the localization would have us believe all this time).
