Considering how good I heard EOT is I should be happy. Problem is WB is not interested in making a anywhere near faithful version of Akira. Just let it die already.

You gotta' wonder WHY they're making Akira even in the face of some truly awful Hollywood-funded live-action adaptations. EoT is probably one of the few that got away scott-free!

There are as many good Hollywood adaptations of things as there are bad versions.
So I'm not sure where this cynical attitude comes from. Even just looking at actual Hollywood adaptations of anime it is split with Speed Racer and of course DragonBall. No things like Blood are not actual hollywood movies.

He can write all the script he wants, it doesn't mean the movie's going into production. And even if it does go into production, it doesn't mean it will be given anything near a reasonable budget to pull something as grandiose as AKIRA off. I'd rather see nothing made than a $30 million disaster – that budget only worked on Dredd 3D because they smartly focused on such a narrow story about being trapped inside a building. AKIRA can't do that. If a report comes out that it has $150m+, then I'd be more optimistic.

I'm gonna sound selfish here but... I don't want any sort live-action Akira project being made. I think it's all pointless and a waste of time.
Why they still try to get this thing made, I have no clue, but if it ever sees the light off day, I'd rather just rewatch the already perfect movie 10 times over.

meaning nearly everything in Akira will be changed as well, other than a few character names, and basic plot

I agree about the budget part, a movie like Akira needs a big budget. I like to see adaptations, even if it fails I rather they tried than nothing at all.
Failure only means, that the original anime Akira is still around for us to enjoy and the failure itself may make some other director, who has a passion for anime or this show in particular, want to do it justice.

As with every anime to live adaptation, I will be cautiously optimistic. Having said that, I don't see a way that movie would work. They would work to get it down to a PG-13 movie, which would take away from the appeal of it, in my opinion. I would seriously doubt it gets made...

Also When Japan adapt anime/manga into live-action they also don't come out very well (ie: Negima is one example).

Many Akira manga fans think the anime film is nowhere near perfect, and they want a better adaptation.

Sometimes, it's just somebody's project, similar with Japan keeps making adaptations. Less and less films now are original productions.

Well you're certainly not going to get that from Hollywood.

enurtsol: As 'flawed' as the anime is, it's still a million times better than whatever live-action film they'd come up with for Akira.

Maybe because Edge of Tomorrow's Production Budget: $178+ million and Worldwide Box Office= $350+ Millions. Good profit. Almost double the money without all the dvd and bluray sales.
