By Cagliostro, I assume they mean the historical guy, Alessandra Cagliostro (Giuseppe Balsamo) who was mentioned in episode 4 of the new TV series when the subject of a piece of Marie Antoinette's necklace came up (it was the treasure of the week), and not the villain of the Miyazaki CoC.

Loving this new series, but hoping it can be its own thing and not ride Miyazaki's coat tails. (There was one blatant swipe of a visual gag from CoC in the first episode).
Although if this is a younger Lupin, I guess we could see the event Lupin alludes to in the film, where he got his butt kicked the first time he tried to sneak into the castle. Still, rather they not go there, though. |

Are we ever going to see a licensed version of the current Lupin III series in North America? All we have so far are fansubs, and some of them are translations from the Italian dub rather than the original Japanese. I don't understand why neither CR nor Funi have licensed this yet. Is the production committee holding it back for some reason?

It could be that studios are hesitant to license this new series is because of the past failures they went through bring the franchise over here in the states.

From what I understand, Lupin properties have been decently profitable for Discotek. They could grab it.

I voted for Lupin III 2015 in my anime top 5 poll so the more we get, the better!
(He is supposed to be in his 20?) I assume that the special will have tie-in´s to the movie due to some of the people attached. They could also combine the 18th century occultist with the movie villain via a bloodline. The last worthwhile special was 2002´s Episode 0: First Contact. 03´s Operation Return the Treasure, 08´s Sweet Lost Night and 11´s Blood Seal - Eternal Mermaid were ok too i guess. |
