Shunji Iwai's 'Fireworks' Film Listed With December 13 Opening in Philippines

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Philippine cinema chain SM Cinema is listing the screening of Uchiage Hanabi, Shita kara Miru ka? Yoko kara Miru ka? (Fireworks, Should We See it from the Side or the Bottom?) — the anime film adaptation of director Shunji Iwai's 1993 live-action drama of the same name — with a December 13 opening date.

Pioneer Films, the film's distributor, previously stated that the film will open in the Philippines in December.

The film opened in Japan on August 18, and earned 170 million yen (about US$1.56 million) on its opening day to rank #3 in the Japanese box office in its opening weekend. The film has earned a cumulative total of 1,324,536,300 yen (US$11,967,185).

Hitoshi Ōne (live-action Bakuman., Moteki) wrote the film's script and Nobuyuki Takeuchi (key animator on Spirited Away, Penguindrum, Bakemonogatari) directed the film at studio SHAFT.
