Animax UK Adds Re: Hamatora and Rail Wars

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Sequel to original Hamataro, plus new train-based action series.

In a press release, the Animax UK site announced that it will add two new anime series which are being broadcast in the summer season in Japan: Re:_Hamatora and Rail Wars!.

Re:_Hamatora is a sequel to the previous series Hamatora (also available on Animax), which was shown in Japan this spring. The original series took place in Yokohama, and involved characters with special inborn powers called 'minimum holders.' The Crunchyroll site describes the sequel:

It has been three months since the incident at Yokohama. Things have been settling down at Cafe Nowhere. Murasaki and Hajime have teamed up and started investigating again. After an unforeseen reunion, Art holds Nice at gunpoint. What are his real intentions? What will become of the connection between Art and Hamatora?

The first anime's chief director Seiji Kishi is formally listed as the director for the new anime, but at the studio Lerche this time. (NAZ will be collaborating with Lerche.) The cast is returning and several other staff members are returning. The collaborative unit of livetune adding Takuro Sugawara (from 9mm Parabellum Bullet) will perform the anime's opening theme, “Sen no Tsubasa” (A Thousand Wings), and Ayami, the voice of Hamatora's Chiyū, will perform the ending theme, "Brand New World."

Rail Wars!, pictured left, is directed by Yoshifumi Sueda (Haitai Nanafa, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood episode director) at the animation studio Passione (Haitai Nanafa). Crunchyroll describes the series:

In a parallel world where Japan has not privatized any of its railways, Naoto Takayama is an ordinary high school student who dreams of being a train conductor for the Japanese National Railways. He is assigned as to the Tokyo Central Railway Public Security Office. He is teamed up with Aoi Sakurai, a strong willed woman who excels in marksmanship and close combat, Haruka Koumi, who has an extraordinary memory, Sho Iwaizumi, a hot-blooded man who relies on brute force. From lost children to bombings, Naoto must lead this team, despite not having any special strength!

The series composition is by Masashi Suzuki (The Sacred Blacksmith, Shuffle!). Makoto Uno (Love Hina, The Qwaser of Stigmata) is character designer and chief animation director. Sayaka Koiso is chief animation director and sub-character designer. Yuushi Koshida (Kids on the Slope, Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing-) is the CGI director, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa (Love Live! School idol project, The Eccentric Family) composes the music. ZAQ performs the ending theme song and Minori Chihara performs the opening theme "Mukai Kaze ni Utarenagara."
