Mirei Kiritani Stars in Film of Shōjo Manga Heroine Shikkaku

Momoko Kōda's romantic comedy about girl who believe she must marry her childhood friend

A live-action film adaptation of Momoko Kōda's shōjo manga Heroine Shikkaku (No Longer the Heroine) has been green-lit. The romantic comedy center around Hatori Matsuzaki, a high school girl who firmly believes that she has to marry her childhood friend someday. The manga ran in Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine from 2010 to 2013, and Shueisha published 10 compiled book volumes.

Actress Mirei Kiritani (live-action Arakawa Under the Bridge, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Jigoku Sensei Nube) will play Hatori. She has been a fan of the original manga, and she had already personally wanted it adapted into a movie. Kōda said that when she was serializing the manga, she secretly modeled Hatori on Kiritani, so she is truly delighted that Kiritani will end up playing Hatori. Kōda added that she received the film's script the other day, and she imagined how Kiritani will make Hatori's signature funny faces in her performance.

Actor Kento Yamazaki (live-action Another, Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu, L DK) will play the childhood friend Rita Terasaka.

Kentarō Sakaguchi (live-action Otoko no Isshō, Umimachi Diary) will play Kōsuke Hiromitsu, the coolest boy at school.

Tsutomu Hanabusa (High School Debut, Handsome Suit, Sadako 3D) is directing the film for release this summer.
