The Cinema Today entertainment news website began streaming a trailer for the live-action film adaptation of Setona Mizushiro's Nōnai Poison Berry (Poison Berry In My Brain) on Thursday. The film premiered in Japan on Saturday.
Yuichi Sato directed the film. Yōko Maki stars as the lead character Ichiko Sakurai, Yūki Furukawa stars as her love interest Saotome, and Sonha stars as the editor Ochi.
The following cast members play the characters in Ichiko's head:
- Hidetoshi Nishijima as Chairman Yoshida
- Ryūnosuke Kamiki as the optimistic Ishibashi
- Yō Yoshida as the negative Ikeda
- Hiyori Sakurada as Hatoko, who always acts on instinct
- Kazuyuki Asano as Secretary Kishi
In the story, Ichiko Sakurai is a 30-something-year-old woman who falls in love with a younger man named Saotome, whom she meets at a drinking party. Her inner thoughts are portrayed as a meeting of five people, including a girl in gothic lolita clothes and an old man.
Mizushiro launched the series in Shueisha's Chorus women's magazine in 2009 and continued the series when the magazine relaunched as Cocohana. Mizushiro then ended the series in March, and Shueisha published the fifth and final compiled volume on April 24.
The series was ranked among the top 20 manga for female readers by Takarajimasha Inc.'s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2013 guidebook and won a jury selection prize at the 17th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2013.
Tokyopop released Mizushiro's X-Day manga in 2003, Go! Comi finished releasing her After School Nightmare manga in 2009, JManga published part of her Dousei Ai manga, and Viz Media is releasing her Black Rose Alice manga. Mizushiro's series Un chocolatier de l'amour perdu (Shitsuren Chocolatier), which ended with the ninth volume in February, received a live-action drama adaptation in 2014.
