Sony Music Records and Aniplex will accept applications for auditions for the group until November 11, and then the companies will hold five rounds of auditions in December before announcing the final members.

Akimoto founded the AKB48 idol group in 2005, with its sixth and latest domestic sister group, STU48, launching next summer. Akimoto also founded AKB48's "official rival group" Nogizaka46.
