The official website for the Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga (Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujō Ō-hen) sequel anime announced on Friday that voice actor Hiroaki Hirata (One Piece's Sanji, Sword Art Online's Klein) will replace Keiji Fujiwara in the role of character Shirō Fujimoto in the anime.
Fujiwara was slated to reprise the role from the first Blue Exorcist anime series and film, but announced in August he was taking a break from voice acting activities to undergo medical treatment for an unspecified illness.
Toshiyuki Morikawa recently replaced Fujiwara as Hiroshi Nohara in the Crayon Shin-chan anime and the Crayon Shin-chan Gaiden net anime series. Fujiwara is currently still slated to reprise his role of Hannes in the upcoming Attack on Titan sequel television anime series, which will premiere in spring 2017.
Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga will premiere in January and will air on MBS's "Animeism" programming block. Aniplex of America licensed the series for its winter lineup.
