Kin-iro Mosaic/KINMOZA! Special Anime Debuts at #11 at Box Office

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Opened on 16 screens & will add 27 theaters in December, 9 theaters in January

The Kin-iro Mosaic: Pretty Days anime special episode debuted at #11 in the Japanese box office for the November 12-13 weekend. The anime opened last Saturday on 16 screens. The anime's official Twitter account announced on Monday that, starting on December 10, the screening will expand with an additional 26 theaters, for a total of 42 theaters. The screening will add one additional theater on December 17, and nine additional theaters in January.

In the episode, the school festival is on the horizon and something is off with Shinobu. She says she's been very sleepy in the mornings lately, and it seems she has pushed herself too hard working on the scripts and costumes for their class play. Alice and Yōko, who are in another class, notice her circumstances.

Yui Hara's original manga begins with Shinobu, a 15-year-old, seemingly "pure Japanese" girl who did a homestay in Great Britain. Even after coming back to Japan, she still misses her time overseas. One day, an air mail letter arrives from Alice, the girl in Shinobu's host family in Great Britain. The letter reads, "Shinobu, I'm coming to Japan!" The "Japanese/British girls' light comedy" follows the lives of Shinobu, Alice, and other girls from both Japan and Great Britain.

The first anime series aired in 2013, and the second series, Hello!! KINMOZA, premiered in 2015. Crunchyroll streamed both seasons as they aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks released the first series on home video in 2014, and released the sequel on October 18.

Yen Press announced in March that it has licensed Hara's original manga, and it will release the first volume in December.
