IDW to Manage Tokyopop's Foreign Rights for Non-English Markets

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Tokyopop restarted publishing of translated manga in January

Tokyopop announced on Wednesday that IDW International, the international publishing arm of IDW Publishing, will manage the foreign rights catalog of Tokyopop for non-English language markets.

Tokyopop announced last month that it will begin publishing translated manga once more, and announced its first three licenses: Konohana Kitan, Hanger, and Futaribeya.

Tokyopop shut down its North American publishing operations in May 2011 but collaborated with other companies to release manga and world manga after the closure. Tokyopop announced at its Anime Expo panel in 2015 that it was planning to begin publishing manga again in 2016. The company has since released manga collaborations with Disney films, including Lilo and Stitch, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Beauty and the Beast. Tokyopop also began releasing the Chinese comic Bloodivores digitally last July.
